The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust is a charitable foundation with a mission to leave a lasting legacy owned by the whole Commonwealth in honour of Her Majesty The Queen.
The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust is a charitable foundation established in 2012 to mark and celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s sixty-year contribution to the Commonwealth at the time of her Diamond Jubilee.
The Trust’s mission is to enrich the lives of people from all backgrounds within the Commonwealth by working with partners towards eliminating avoidable blindness and empowering a new generation of young leaders.
The Trust has a five-year time frame in which to deliver successful programmes. Through grants, advocacy and convening, it is working with partners to create sustainable improvements to the lives of Commonwealth citizens, in line with Commonwealth priorities. It aims to leave a lasting legacy, owned by the whole Commonwealth, in honour of Her Majesty The Queen.
The Trust has joined the global movement to end avoidable blindness. It is working to combat three major avoidable causes of blindness in the Commonwealth and to strengthen the eye care sector as a whole. It is seeking to tackle blinding trachoma, diabetic retinopathy and retinopathy of prematurity as well as funding fellowships, research and technology within the field of avoidable blindness.
The Trust is also working to empower a new generation of young leaders across the Commonwealth, where more than 60% of people are under the age of 30. The Queen’s Young Leaders Programme, a partnership with Comic Relief, The Royal Commonwealth Society and the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education, seeks to discover, support and celebrate exceptional young leaders from across the Commonwealth. It is also helping to transform the lives of young people through grants to youth-led and focused organisations.
