The Shona Project CLG

Careers at The Shona Project CLG

Launched in September 2016, The Shona Project CLG aims to educate, empower and inspire today’s Irish girls to become tomorrow’s resilient, capable and confident young women.

Teenage girls in Ireland face a specific set of challenges including the societal pressure to look perfect, which leads to low self-esteem, mental health issues and often results in their potential not being realised. In order to ensure that all Irish girls have the skills, tools and self-esteem they need to achieve their potential, TSP has adopted a three-pronged approach which includes school workshops, the development of a positive online community and events & projects.

Over the past 3 years, TSP has partnered with the regional youth radio stations to create SHINE Festival, a positive, fun and inspiring event for the young women of Ireland. Shine has grown from 350 attendees in 2018 to 40,000 online attendees in 2021. The event gives girls an opportunity to hear from over 100 inspirational and authentic female leaders across areas such as mental health, diversity, self-esteem, resilience and mindset, sports, stem, arts, leadership, social issues.

    πŸ“£ Mission & Purpose
The Shona Project is on a mission to ensure every girl across Ireland is empowered, inspired and educated to use their voices to be the change they want to see.

This mission is seen in every aspect of the work The Shona Project does and the people that get involved with The Shona Project have some form of a personal connection. It is amazing to see what can be achieved when people are sriven by passion and a want to help.

    πŸ₯° Employee recognition
The Shona Project is the first time I have ever had the opportunity to work with a team solely made up of women.

The culture in The Shona Project is in a world of its own. As we live and breath positive attitudes on a daily basis, this is felt every time you talk to any member of the team.

No matter your experience of position in the organisation, everyone is treated with the same respect. Everyone learns from everyone and no matter the size of your win, it is celebrated as if you've won an Olympic Gold medal.

    πŸ“– Opportunities to learn
The Shona Project has so many contacts, supports and allies. Every single day you learn something new and have the opportunity to work with so many different people from different organisations.

At every opportunity, you are encouraged to learn and get the most you can from working with The Shona Project. The team are very flexible and are willing to help and support you through any opportunity to grow your skills.

    πŸ“£ Mission & Purpose
The Shona Project are committed to empowering and inspiring todays' Irish girls to become tomorrows strong and confident women. This mission is instilled in its team as all employees and volunteers are given opportunities to be heard, and their is a very real sense of shared ownership of the movement, with no one person taking credit. Shona walks the walk, and has created a team who are all supporting and empowering each other, and not just in terms of getting the job done.

    πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘§ Team members
The team are amazing, but the structure is even more impressive. The organisation is guided by a board of directors, but has created a shadow board, to train and create opportunities for more women, with a focus on diversity. Also, TSP has created a board of ambassadors a team of young women and girls, who are equally as empowered in terms of shaping the impact. The ambassadors have access to the board and the CEO as mentors, and are constantly being given opportunities to network, create a support system, and build their profiles.

    πŸ– Flexibility
As an NGO, we can not compete in terms of salary, but we make up for it by taking great care of our employees. We offer flexibile working arrangements, work from home and chose your hours to suit your other family, personal or educational priorities.

    Overall

The Shona Project is a more than just an organisation, we have built a movement, and instilled our values across every part of the organisation. We value our people, who are all as passionate about what we do as we are, and all feel empowered to create a new future for the girls of Ireland
