The main beneficiaries of T.A.S. are animals, mainly domestic pets such as dogs, cats and other smaller animals and also horses, ponies and some farm animals. They are rescued from ill-treatment, neglect and abandonment (sometimes unintentional such as through the death of an owner),  and from euthanasia in some cases. They are cared for, treated medically as necessary, assessed and adopted to the best possible homes available. This clearly helps to prevent or to mitigate suffering for as many animals as we can help without reducing our own welfare standards.  People are also beneficiaries, such as those whose lives are enriched by caring for animals (by fostering, adopting or volunteering) and for those owners who can no longer look after their own animals if their circumstances change significantly (e.g. moving to a care home).
