About us

Siblings Luis and Carolina
Gonzalez-Bunster launched the Walkabout Foundation in August 2009 after Luis became
paralyzed from the chest down with a 900 kilometer walk along the Camino de Santiago de
Compostela. Luis became the first person in the history of Spain to cross the entire country using
only the strength of his two arms. In the last three years, Walkabout Foundation has funded over 1
million dollars in paralysis research and donated over 3,500 wheelchairs to kids and adults in
need in Haiti, Dominican Republic, Rwanda, Chile, Pakistan, Malawi, Ghana and Sudan.
