We host the Wikimedia projects, build software experiences for reading, contributing, and sharing Wikimedia content, support the volunteer communities and partners who make Wikimedia possible, and advocate for policies that enable Wikimedia and free knowledge to thrive. The Wikimedia Foundation is a charitable, not-for-profit organization that relies on donations. We receive financial support from millions of individuals around the world, with an average donation of about $15. We also receive donations through institutional grants and gifts. The Wikimedia Foundation is a United States 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization with offices in San Francisco, California, USA.

Wikimedia Foundation is a flexible, positive, and motivating environment that fosters collaborative and innovative thinking. The teams are incredibly talented and intelligent and they love the work that they do. From my brief time here I can tell that the org truly cares about fostering a genuine work-life balance, and offers employees many opportunities to collaborate with the non-remote teams as well.

My colleagues are some of the most interesting, compassionate, and intelligent people with which I've had the pleasure to work in my career. The Wikimedia Foundation combines the perks of a progressive tech company (remote friendliness, 401k, fully paid insurance premiums and generous time off) with the values and ethics of a nonprofit. The Wikimedia movement (encompassing the foundation, Wikipedia and related projects, and all our hundreds of thousands of volunteer contributors) has come to exemplify 'the good internet' : openness, collaboration, neutrality. I feel like a very small part of it, and I'm proud of the role I play. And it's still thrilling for everyone I meet to instantly recognize the name of the website that I support: Wikipedia.
