What’s it like to work at Cervest, leading the climate intelligence revolution?
Spotlighting the winners of Escape 100 2022, we take a look at how Cervest is pioneering climate intelligence and leading the way with turning climate science into decision-useful insights.
You’ve heard of The Sunday Times Rich List, that guide to the UK's richest people? Well our Escape 100 list is almost the antithesis to this campaign - a list of the top 100 purpose-led organisations to work for any given year, scored on 145 data points, across 6 categories that matter (impact, planet, mission, people, innovation, B-Corp), taking into consideration 6,765 anonymous employee reviews.
Our aim with the Escape 100? To spotlight the best organisations that are doing things differently. These are the organisations to follow for your next career move, who are both doing good and have a progressive work culture for their teams (remote and flexible working, 4-day work weeks, etc.).
Today we’re shining a light on Cervest, one of the winners of the 2022 batch, who are currently hiring 5 roles on Escape. If you’re thinking about shifting to a career helping people to adapt to climate change, then look no further. Here we run down what this inspiring organisation is working on, their next projects, feedback from current employees, and how to stay up-to-date with their hiring activities!
Iggy’s dream: A world where climate change insights are open-access, transparent and democratised
Founder and CEO Iggy Bassi was running a sustainable agribusiness in West Africa, when he found it hard to convince people that the successive adverse weather they were experiencing were not just freak events, but due to climate change.
Today it seems like a no-brainer that climate change information should be streamlined and open-access for everyone to use, right? But in those days, NGOs, governments, and businesses had no central hub to find and monitor this insight, as well as use it to make decisions, such as how to protect their key assets (from power plants to factories, transportation lines to office buildings).
Back then, Iggy envisioned a new era where any user on the planet could access climate intelligence, empowering them to make better decisions. Iggy’s dream has now become a reality. Cervest - a world first - now translates the world's peer-reviewed climate science into decision-useful insights, all wrapped up in a neat platform.
Using Cervest’s climate intelligence product EarthScan™, anyone can discover how climate hazards such as flooding, droughts, and extreme temperatures will impact their assets. EarthScan helps Cervest’s customers confidently identify risks, de-risk decisions, rewire business processes, and actually discover new opportunities.
And here’s the latest scoop: Cervest told us last week that right now they're focusing on helping businesses comply with climate disclosure regulations, which were recently made mandatory for over 1300 companies in the UK and the US (and the rest of the world set to follow suit). According to Cervest’s 2021 Climate Intelligence Outlook, 88% of UK and US companies have already had a corporate physical asset, (e.g. office or warehouse), affected by extreme weather. Business continuity risks are only set to increase as the climate becomes more volatile, so this is a key project to have their hands in.
Progressive culture: a 9.8/10 employee rating and 100% remote working
Beyond leading this climate intelligence revolution, Cervest also won a spot in our competitive Escape 100 list this year, officially being classed as one of the top 100 purpose-led organisations to work for in 2022.
Beating 13,000 nominated organisations, Cervest shone brightly across the 6 scoring categories (impact, planet, mission, people, innovation, B-Corp). Measured across 145 data points and anonymous employee reviews, we were looking for more than the typical ping-pong table and ‘fruit on a friday’ when it comes to a progressive work environment.
In the ‘People’ category, Cervest scored an incredible 9.8/10 employee rating, across 45 reviews:
“I feel Cervest is the most exciting place I've ever worked at. It is fundamentally a mission driven organisation, genuinely intent on democratising the intelligence needed to understand the risk climate change poses. Along with that, the ability to work on cutting edge products, technology and science means your in an environment where you're always learning and doing some of your best work.” - Employee Partha
“Honestly this review asked me to list the top 3 reasons for working at Cervest but I found that incredibly difficult. In addition to everything above I get a fantastic autonomy to go out and achieve my objectives as well as having a supportive management structure who will me to succeed. The culture is amazing.” - Jon, Employee
A snapshot of why their employees rate them so highly includes a fully remote and flexible timetable, career expansion support (e.g. £1000 each year to expand your knowledge), work-life balance (weekly mindfulness sessions, team activities, enhanced sick leave, video counselling and holistic mental health support), enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental leave options, and at work autonomy and idea-sharing is encouraged.
