xtonnes is a sustainability and climate tech start-up on a mission to equip businesses for a low carbon future. Using next-generation carbon management software we enable companies to quantify their emissions, define a decarbonisation target and plan their way to Net Zero. Backed by Carbon13 and based between Bristol & London, we have a growing list of enterprise and SME clients, and are looking for a principal developer to join our growing team.
About the role of Principal Developer
xtonnes is looking for a principal developer interested in taking a step up at a fast-growing, purpose-orientated startup. In this role you will work closely with our CTO, designers and data scientists, defining and solving technical challenges while managing internal and external developers. We view this role as having exciting potential with the opportunity for the right candidate to progress into a senior “VP” role within the business.
In this role you will:
- Take ownership of software performance: accuracy, reliability, security, and privacy
- Build software: continue the build out of the xtonnes platform
- Grow and manage a team: set priorities, allocate budgets and address backlogs
- Implement your development approach and improve all phases of development
- Manage risks and keep the business ahead of future regulations and requirements
You will be:
- Interested in the direction of the business and taking a senior ‘VP’ position in the future
- Interested in the purpose and subject of carbon footprints and environmental impacts
- Based in the UK and able to work in our London office two days a week
- Fluent in English
You will probably have:
- 2+ years leading a team
- 5+ years relevant experience in commercial software development and deployment
- Used or are interested in using no/low-code to iterate products or prototypes faster
- Used popular traditional stacks and serverless solutions such as Firebase, GCP or AWS
- Built with popular front-end components/languages such as React, TypeScript
- Built with popular back-end components/languages such as Firebase, Mongo DB
- Varied experience configuring third-party APIs, transforming data and scraping data
- Experience applying web and software standards (W3C, OWASP etc) to support security, reliability, scalability and accessibility.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to pitch new ideas in compelling ways
- A degree, other qualifications and certificates that got you to where you are today
