Comms & Content Creator Job Description

About Ocean Generation:

Established in 2009 by film producer Jo Ruxton, we have galvanised a growing wave of change by exposing the threat of plastic pollution to our health and the health of our Ocean. Our award-winning documentary ‘A Plastic Ocean’, was named by Sir David Attenborough as “one of the most important films of our time” and ignited mass public awareness about the impact of plastic on our Ocean. Today, as a UNESCO endorsed Ocean NGO, we address the full range of human actions threatening the Ocean with a particular focus on engaging young people.

  • Our vision is a world where the Ocean is freed from human threats within a generation.
  • Our mission is to empower a global inclusive movement to tackle Ocean threats through science and storytelling.

We aim to foster a sense of agency, leading to tangible behavioural changes and a desire for collective action. This approach, combined with the increasingly global reach and impact of our programmes, provides an attractive based from which to build a funding proposition for each group of supporters.

About the Role:

Working with the Head of Comms and Engagement, you’ll be managing multiple social media channels, creating and maximising cutting-edge content, responsible for the growth and engagement of the Ocean Generation community and be involved in various digital and activation campaigns. You’ll also work closely with multiple teams across the organisation; creating a clear narrative for Ocean Science that dispels jargon and makes it easy for people to understand; developing marketing content for digital outlets; communicating youth programme outcomes and reporting progress internally in a timely and concise way.

You are a resourceful and intuitive communicator and storyteller with a keen eye for detail, looking to make your mark in a creative communications role with real environmental and social purpose and capacity for growth. You are someone who thrives in a collaborative and dynamic team and is keen to use your knowledge (and infinite curiosity) about the latest tech, trends and pop culture news to release the creative potential of this generation of Ocean ambassadors.
