What is Sylvera anyway? ‍👩‍👨🌳

Sylvera is scaling carbon markets with software. We do this by applying advanced machine learning techniques to satellite data to quantify with unprecedented accuracy the amount of carbon stored in landscapes - and then we visualise that data to our customers.

We believe the transparency Sylvera provides will enable carbon markets to have a more positive impact on the world in a shorter space of time. This will be critical in keeping the planet under 2C of warming and provide huge wider benefits to nature and society.

Founded in 2020, Sylvera has now scaled to over 100+ employees across the world and has raised over $30m from leading VCs like Index Ventures and Insight Partners. We’ve also collaborated with leading institutions - University College London, UCLA and NASA JPL.

We're on a super steep trajectory over the next couple of years - we want incredible people that are as passionate as we are about the mission and want to build an amazing organisation with us to achieve it.

What will I be doing? ‍‍👩‍💻👨‍💻

Sylvera’s multi-scale lidar (MSL) team are collecting state-of-the-art laser scanning measurements of the world’s forests, that are being used to estimate biomass and carbon stocks across landscapes with unprecedented accuracy. These data have the potential to transform our understanding of these ecosystems, and to incentivise their protection and restoration. This ranges from providing solid foundations for forest accounting across carbon markets, through to enabling new ecological- and global change-related research.

We are looking for an experienced fundraiser to secure long-term funding for Sylvera’s MSL function on a 12 month FTC, who will seek out philanthropic funding opportunities, build relationships with funders, and coordinate and write compelling proposals. This is a new and establishing role, and you will have the opportunity to shape and develop the strategy for fundraising.

Specific responsibilities will include:

Research and build a portfolio of prospective private foundations, bilateral and multilateral donors, corporate donors and pooled funds, including those giving seven-figure grants Establish, manage and steward relationships with these prospective funders Coordinate and draft compelling concept notes, letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and reports for diverse groups of funders Represent Sylvera in external outreach and networking spaces with the goal of building our network of prospects

We’re looking for someone with: 🧠💚

Significant level of fundraising experience within the environmental sciences, desirably both US- and global-oriented A proven record of success in securing funding from a range of donors, including bilateral and multilateral donors Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, particularly including the ability to represent Sylvera to donors Excellent writing skills and ability to analyse complex information, and present it in an accessible for for different audiences Willingness to travel internationally to attend meetings, conferences, and other donor engagement events Experience working in international contexts and multicultural working environments Cares deeply about the climate and ecosystems of the earth and is a self-starter who is willing to get stuck in, help out and thrives in constantly evolving environments, ideally with early-stage experience Foreign language skills are a plus
