SEJA Grant Writer
Founded in Brazil, with affiliates in the US and UK, SEJA is a social purpose brand that collaborates with and develops local leaders with youth-focused social initiatives. We help strengthen and evolve these leaders and organisations by providing financial support, professional development, education, events, and outreach programs. These tools grow their projects and the leaders themselves, supplying a positive cultural alternative to the marginalised communities' often violent lifestyles.
The SEJA team is passionate, tight-knit, and driven to create positive change. We're seeking a talented grant writer to join the SEJA community and aid us in widening our impact through grant prospecting and applications. This role best suits an individual with excellent research and written communication skills. The right candidate will have a proven track record of successful grant writing in the field of international/aid development and, therefore, will arrive with existing prospecting ideas and contacts.
Please note this role is a remote, part-time position. The successful candidate will be a contractor with a competitive day rate. It is initially expected the contractor will be required for five full days per month.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Your role is to work with the CEO to develop a pipeline of grant applications to trusts and foundations.
- This involves researching the funding criteria of trusts and foundations and alongside the SEJA strategy and business plan, developing ideas on how SEJA can meet their requirements.
- To draft the written grant applications and support them with documents necessary to obtain funding.
- Understand SEJA's history, structure, objectives, projects and financial needs to provide accurate information to donors.
- Maintain positive relationships with fund providers, responding to any queries that may arise.
- Maintain records for any reports related to grant opportunities, work with project managers where necessary, and create follow-up materials, such as budgets and project plans, if the donor requests them.
Skills and Qualifications:
- A proven track record of winning grants and preferably of subsequent impact reporting also.
- Bachelor's degree in English, communications, creative writing or a related area is preferred.
- A minimum of two years of experience in grant writing.
- Excellent knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising process.
- Ability to study and understand programs and funding requirements.
- Strong research skills and knowledge of information sources.
- Multitasking, organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to handle confidential matters with integrity.
