Introduction to the role
This is a dynamic role in the Rights Department, working on the wide-ranging Fiction list (including Tolkien) in key foreign language territories. We are looking for an experienced and proactive person with as much passion for reading fiction as cutting business and exceeding budgets. The role will include working on co-editions as well as licensing and the successful applicant will be comfortable negotiating at all levels as well as with some foreign travel.
Key tasks and accountabilities
Selling translation rights across Fiction (Fiction, HQ, Avon, OMC, Harper North, Harper Ireland) into Brazil, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, Scandinavia, Slovakia, Spain & Latin America, Ukraine
Work with the Rights Director on co-ordinating Tolkien co-editions as well as financial planning
Contribute to department strategy and fulfilment of budgetary targets
Attend all HQ and Harper Ireland Acquisition Meetings and act as a conduit between divisions and rights
Contribute to the acquisition process ensuring international sales potential within the publishing programme
Negotiate and execute high volume of rights contracts
Attend Frankfurt and London Bookfairs as well as additional sales trips to key territories
Skills required:
Ability to communicate at all levels, both in writing and verbally.
Comfortable using Word and Excel
Impeccable organisational skills.
Meticulous attention to detail
Awareness of the print production process
Keen Negotiation skills
