About the role

This is a unique opportunity for a sector-leading teacher to be one of the first hires into Beam Skills - a new training function being built for the thousands of disadvantaged people using Beam that looks to equip everyone who needs it with the skills and abilities to thrive.

The UK has seen 4 unprecedented refugee challenges emerge over the last 2 years; the war in the Ukraine, the withdrawal of British involvement in Afghanistan, the support of political refugees from Hong Kong and a dramatic increase in the number of people crossing the channel.

We are looking for an engaging and enthusiastic teacher who will deliver instructive and inspiring English lessons to support the many new refugees looking to settle and start a new life in the UK.

This is a full-time (9am-6pm Mon-Fri), fixed term employment contract (UK based) for 3 months initially, with the possibility of an extension. The role will require initial learner assessments and then the delivery of a course consisting of virtual classes with supplementary 1 on 1 support where required.

You’ll be

  • Delivering an incredible course, helping learners get closer to work

  • Working cross-functionally with the rest of the Beam Skills team to iterate and improve this course for future use

  • Experimenting with new ideas for how we incorporate English training into Beam’s award-winning employment and housing support

You are

  • Comfortable delivering virtual training in an engaging and effective way

  • Excited about the possibilities of technology transforming the lives of some of society’s most disadvantaged people

  • Highly organised and renowned for your incredible attention to detail

  • Tech savvy: you don’t need to be an IT expert, but you’ll need to comfortable working with new technologies and problem-solving

  • Self-starting and enthusiastic about operational tasks: keen to improve processes and suggest new ways of doing things

You’ll need

  • Experience delivering English training

  • Preferable: a CELTA qualification but if not a TEFL or TESOL qualification

  • Preferable: experience working with refugees before, including detailed knowledge of the challenges people experience

  • Preferable: lived experience of being a refugee in the UK

What great looks like

  • You’ll deliver an exceptional course to our first cohorts of learner preparing them for life in the UK

  • You’ll be constantly improving the course, both throughout delivery and after the first cohort have finished

  • You’ll be constantly sharing learnings and ideas about how to incorporate English training into Beam’s current model

  • Our commissioners will be impressed by the learner feedback and outcomes

  • You will have co-developed a delivery model that can be replicated across different cohorts of refugees
