We are looking for a Senior Director, Learning Design who is passionate about learning and learners and can drive evidence-based, student-centered design for transformative, job skills-focused learning experiences.

The Senior Director, Learning Design will report to General Assembly’s VP of Learning and Innovation, and will lead the learning design function that develops, maintains, and delivers the company’s instructor-led and on-demand offerings for our B2B and B2C learners. This is one of the key functions of the learning team working with their counterparts in edtech product and instruction to realize the learning vision. This learning design function includes teams dedicated to curriculum development, consultative learning design, and content management; and is responsible for developing innovative learning products for upskilling and reskilling.

This is a U.S.-based role with flexibility to be 100% remote.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of instructional designers, client-facing learning experience architects, assessment and content managers around a unified vision of learning aligned to GA’scompany strategy.

  • Drive the strategy and approach in competency-based learning and modular curriculum design for enabling flexible, stackable learning products. 

  • Evolve processes for evidence-based design, development, and continuous improvement of instructor-led and on-demand courses to ensure instructors and students have access to the highest quality and most impactful learning experiences.

  • Create a harmonized design process for a global learning design team working across clients, students, instructors, and/or other internal stakeholder.

  • Ensure the team has the right roles, competencies, and culture to be successful in achieving organizational goals.

  • Work with the Head of Faculty as well as Product Management to refine processes for gathering input from external stakeholders, instructors, students, SMEs and others that lead to curricular innovation.

Qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of learning science, learning theories, or learning design principles and their applications to adult learning.

  • Experience in developing curriculum strategy and learning products, particularly with mapping and aligning curriculum to competency taxonomies.

  • Ability to think strategically about long-term development needs of an organization balanced with a strong ability to operationalize and execute near-term priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a matrixed environment and organize cross-functionally with product management, instructor management, and client success teams.

  • Passionate about GA’s mission to transform our students’ lives through learning and alignment with GA’s Statement of Diversity and Inclusion.

  • Experience integrating the application of academic research and design-based research into the learning design process for products

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of industry standards (e.g. SCORM, xAPI, Caliper) and tools (e.g., LCMSs, assessment and authoring tools, etc.).

  • 10+ years experience in instructional design and adult learning, including on-demand, and virtual and in-person instructor-led modalities.

The anticipated annualized salary range for this position in the US market is $129,000 and $160,000. Salary will be determined based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.  If hired as a regular full-time employee, this position will include a variable compensation plan which could be a bonus or a commission.

Available paid leave may include paid time off, parental leave and holiday pay.
