As Deputy Head of India you will need:

  • To provide support to HSAP in project delivery in terms of operational, programme management, and execution of content priorities set by HSAP for the India Programme effectively in accordance with strategic goals.
  • To understand, embed and execute project and programme delivery.

This role requires close and effective collaboration with the wider teams across the organisation and overseeing the involvement of relevant team members under a matric structure.

To support the team’s mission to monitor, grow and inform the sustainable finance market, including identifying trends and avenues for future growth in the India region.

Key responsibilities

Organisational development, Financial and Project Management

  • Manage the operations of CBI India Programme and to increase the overall institutional capacity of CBI in the region
  • Work with the Finance Team and PAL team to ensure the best possible operating position regarding income, costs, managing financial affairs and leading on financial strategy for India team
  • Support the HSAP in recruitment, induction, coaching, mentoring and development of team member(s), including supporting career development planning, with the coordination from the People & Culture department
  • Contribute to the creation of a workplace culture that is consistent with the wider orgnaisation, with a focus to embed CBIs mission, vision, values and behaviours
  • Play a significant role in long-term planning towards operational excellence
  • Take care for the health and safety of the team members who may be affected by the work of CBI
  • Provide regular updates to the HSAP and, through the HSAP, when needed, to the Director of Country Programmes, regarding deliverables of individual team members

Leadership, Research, Market Intelligence and Business Development

  • Collaborate with the Head of India Programme to align the strategic interests in India, including business development, stakeholder management, programme delivery and market research
  • Support the HSAP on the development of future CBI work-streams in India
  • Coordinate CBI’s policy and practice on the identification and management of risk and ensure its compliance with statutory and other regulations in India.
  • Lead the operational management of CBI’s programmes and projects in India
  • Project management and ownership of key market reports
  • Planning outputs and contributing to proposal writing, as well as helping to prepare budgets where relevant
  • Proofing/reviewing outputs as required
  • Coordinate and support production of reports
  • Contribute to the promotion of CBI’s activities in India and between India and the rest of the world, content assimilation, communication, and support for workshops, conferences, and bilateral meetings, etc.
  • Coordinate regional input to global reports and communication
  • Coordinate with partners on the delivery of relevant project objectives
  • India team (internal): daily relationship both on team-wide and project-specific topics/activities.
  • Markets team (internal): closely liaise with the market team to support data-related queries
  • Communications team (internal): planning and implementing various aspects of report launches, webinars and other ad-hoc comms activities, as well as answering questions.
  • Programme Management – closely collaborates with PAL, on overseeing all aspects of programme management, including budgets, reports, proposals, workplans, etc.
  • Other regional programme – support HSAP on collaboration on trans-regional strategies and proposal development on joint projects
  • Designer (contractor, external): producing and delivering reports or other publications.
  • Sponsors and other stakeholders (external): mostly needed with sponsored reports (to agree, obtain and review material) as well as other collaborations with external parties (including in initial discussion stages).
  • Data enquiries (external): answering the data requests we receive on a daily/weekly basis from a variety of institutions.
  • Certification (external): support potential issuers such as banks, state-owned enterprises, municipalities, large corporates and verifiers with advice on green bond issuance and Climate Bonds Standard & Certification. Liaising with financial service providers.
  • Media (external): occasional interaction with media to answer queries and give interviews

Communication and operation support

  • Contribution to various relevant team decisions, e.g. regarding reports, data, processes etc.
  • Task management of interns and / or Analysts on project teams.

Requirements

Essential

  • Significant relevant experience in running of programmes in climate policy/finance
  • Demonstrated programme management, analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Demonstratable experience of working with organizational frameworks and project management tools, logical frameworks and systems
  • Data analysis, comfortable numerically
  • Very good attention to detail and result-driven
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Previous experience of operating in a matrix organsiation/matrix management and collaborating with other Heads of teams and senior managers
  • Flexible, and able to multi-task, prioritise and work to tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in both Indian and English
  • Ability to lead, develop and mentor other team members

Desirable

  • Experience and expertise in climate finance preferably the debt market
  • Passionate about climate change and climate finance
