Course outline
Our MOOCs are designed in short segments to impart technical skills, confidence, career discovery or real-world problem-solving. They are delivered through YouTube Live to facilitate maximum social interaction and reach. MOOCs are divided into two parts, and participants can complete both or choose to take part in one:
- Our MOOC Sprints are 4-week quick learning courses that will give you a good foundational knowledge across key tech topics, including languages, problem-solving and career confidence.
- Our MOOC Challenges allow you to test your knowledge and skills with a challenge, project or task with real-life examples and problem-solving, over the space of 1-month.
What we’re offering
The initial engagement will be a freelance contract for the creation (and potential delivery, if that’s of interest!) of specific MOOC content. You’d be joining the CFG team on a professional freelance basis, helping to shape our MOOC programme, focused on delivering great products that can help our students make their first foray into tech.
What we’re looking for
We will be recruiting a number of content creators to develop MOOC content in specific subjects listed below. There will be an element of freedom and creativity, while meeting the CFG requirements outlined by the team. MOOC subjects, for which we are currently recruiting content creators, are listed below. Please note, you can develop MOOC content for more than one MOOC (if you have the relevant technical skills, knowledge and experience):
- Android Development
- Game Development
- Blockchain and Web 3.0
General Requirements
- A UK/IE-based developer with 2+ years of experience minimum in a professional setting
- Strong technical skills (we’ve not specified here as this will depend on which MOOC subject content you would like to create)
- Experience creating content (this can be formal or informal, for example, you have created tech or coding course content through work or other EdTech providers, or you have voluntarily created content for informal mentoring/tutoring at work. These are just examples, however, and we encourage you to apply no matter how formal/informal your experiences are!)
- Passion for teaching, training or mentoring
‘Good to have’ requirements
- Strong presentation skills and having an understanding of learner communities
- Ability to work with a group and collaborate (we are open to pairing or group content creators to work on MOOC content so collaboration could be required)
- Previous teaching experience (e.g. CFG courses)
- Previous mentoring experience
- Previous experience creating content for/delivering MOOCs or technical workshops
Roles and responsibilities
As a content creator, you will:
- Be responsible for ensuring that all relevant materials are created and shared with the CFG team by set deadlines
- Create course slides (delivered as Google slides to the pre-agreed CFG template and format)
- Create x4 MOOC Sprint quizzes (each with four questions)
- Create student and instructor guides for the course (delivered as a Google document to the pre-agreed template and format) as required
- Conduct one-two demo classes using the newly created content (virtually) to the CFG team
- Create the MOOC Challenge skeleton. This should be an example challenge (to be customisable for sponsoring clients) and the detailed Challenge Statement will be confirmed at a later date
Inclusivity & Equal Opportunities: we are committed to attracting and recruiting diverse candidates as the CFG team grows. We actively welcome applications from people of colour, applicants with disabilities and minority groups.
Community Language: we use an inclusive definition of the word ‘women’ when talking about the Code First Girls community, which includes cisgender and transgender women.
