Director/Senior Director, Marketing (Research Products)

Location: Babraham Research Park, Cambridge

Type: Full time, permanent 

Salary: Competitive / Hours: 40 p/w

Your role in our team:

We are looking for an exceptional Marketer who is driven, passionate, customer-centric and creative, with the ability to deliver compelling and highly effective marketing plans. The candidate will lead the marketing function at bit.bio and have the marketing team (product marketing and corporate marketing) report to them. This role reports into the VP, Research Products.

The candidate will be responsible for the cross-functional development and execution of the global marketing strategy for existing and new products, building strategic programs to grow, protect and defend the portfolio, strengthen bit.bio’s market position and achieve business goals.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Build and lead a world-class marketing team and be responsible for all marketing functions at bit.bio
  • Own, develop and execute marketing strategy and development for bit.bio’s product portfolio. The role will focus on all marketing activities, including launch readiness, campaigns, market development activities and supporting the development and execution of ‘go-to-market’ strategy
  • Work with product management, sales and business development to drive the annual and 5-year segment plans and to achieve quarterly and yearly revenue goals
  • Ensure product and disease area science is translated into actionable and impactful strategies and tactics to support commercialisation of pipeline assets in preparation for timely transition to commercial teams
  • Identify, analyse and integrate meaningful business/market intelligence including changes in market trends, competition, product development and new product releases. Translate insights into actionable commercial plans to inform brand positioning and launch strategy and to ensure commercial leadership is on the forefront of providing sound strategic direction and alignment
  • Establish product and offering differentiation strategy, articulate strategic imperatives and with the marketing team
  • Understand market dynamics by monitoring portfolio, brand performance and competitive atmosphere to rapidly identify pivots needed to strategic direction or operational tactics
  • Communicate the vision and value of new products to the market and develop sales and marketing tools that facilitate the selling process
  • Work with an enterprise mindset, enrolling and collaborating with decisiveness to achieve organisational goals. This role will require working with internal cross functional team, new product planning (CTx), sales, business development and R&D
  • Provide insight and leadership beyond marketing to deliver the commercial business strategy
  • Lead, support and contribute to the annual plan to include brand planning and budgeting process
  • Cultivate an atmosphere of cross-functional collaboration and reciprocal communication that creates a winning environment and inspires all to hold themselves and others accountable for delivering excellence and quality
  • Oversee agency partners to plan, develop, implement and measure global tactics consistent with brand and overall strategy
  • Identifies key regional issues that need global working groups to drive the international commercial position
  • Cultivate relationships with key opinion leaders to influence and enable tangible sales as well as further development projects

  • Have a scientific background (BSc/MSc or equivalent experience) and significant experience/ proven leadership in Marketing within the Life Sciences Products, Biotech and/or Pharma industry, with emphasis in the research tools and reagents areas
  • Are independent, tenacious and driven to succeed
  • Attention to detail is a must - the need to strive for quality of output is in everything we do at bit.bio
  • Have excellent analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to juggle and prioritise work-streams; have the ability to listen and influence across teams (without direct authority)
  • Have excellent writing and editing skills, particularly for communicating scientific information, applications and articles of interest, accurately and appropriately to different target customer segments including scientific Buyers, Influencers and Users
  • Are willing to travel up to 30% - conferences, trade shows etc

With essential experience in…

  • Experience in managing and leading a high performing marketing team
  • Track record of success in launching new, complex products that achieve high- value business results; developing and implementing marketing and go-to-market/commercialisation strategies that have consistently met or exceeded planned objectives
  • Experience in developing and deploying global integrated marketing programs for biotech and/or life science industry and related products (includes experience in search engine optimisation, paid advertising, third-party advertising, email marketing, event marketing, social media etc)
  • Strong strategic planning and analysis skills in sales, marketing and business (competitive) strategy
  • Understanding and leveraging data to optimise campaigns and track performance
  • Ability to effectively communicate value proposition and technical information to a range of customer and internal audiences; experience developing and presenting marketing materials
  • Experience delivering complex projects to meet demanding features, cost, quality and launch date targets
  • Track record of delivering improvements in business performance
  • Experience in executing and developing lead-generation strategies in addition to an understanding of customer segments in which they work

  • An advanced degree (MSc/PhD) in Life Science discipline or MBA
  • Exposure to / knowledge of the cell therapy market
