You will oversee the majority of our portfolio of growth projects and impact initiatives.

Key role summary points:

  • Be a 'strategic advisor' to our management and operations team
  • Ensure we deliver on our mission, realising the benefits of our cross-cutting social impact projects

  • Be accountable for design, build and launches of our exciting multi-sport venues.
  • Build excellent relationships across all organisation types - from executives to the front line.

Responsibilities summary

  • Contribute to overall business and portfolio development, planning and budgeting
  • Design the programme of projects to enable our strategic aims
  • Develop strategies and leading collaborative, benefits-focussed planning
  • Design/refine governance framework & process
  • Design and/or implement entrepreneurial models and pathways with partner organisations incl. coaching their staff
  • Contribute to the design of new business models and social impact strategy, and venue offerings
  • Drive rapid progress whilst building efficient and happy workstreams. (Positive energy/style are key qualities, driving our culture, purpose and values through our projects!)
  • Provide S3's steering group with appropriate visibilty, assurance and governance control

Desirable experience incl. examples

  • 8 years plus professional experience, of these 2 years minimum in Programme Manager roles for major programmes i.e. personally accountable for managing programmes with total staffing budgets >£5m p.a. (incl. 3rd party suppliers) 
  • Experience of managing projects delivering major physical, new, public facing assets and services - ideally construction / built environment projects. (ideally 2+ yrs)
  • Accountable owner for supplier contracts individually >£3m p.a.
  • Led programmes involving partner and supplier orgs. from private, public AND 3rd sector
  • Identified new strategic partnerships required
  • Implemented effective commercial models with a variety of strategic partners and suppliers
  • Led strategic / portfolio planning and governance
  • Accountable for complex, multidisciplinary programmes, incl. dependencies and interfaces with external programmes/projects
  • Managed all programme resources against budgets

Desired skills and knowledge

  • Professional understanding of one or more of the following sectors and industries:
  1. Property and/or construction
  2. Social impact
  3. Sports and leisure 
  • Environmental sustainability 
  • Financial forecasting and programme budgeting
  • Qualifications and / or expertise in pragmatic application of relevant programme and project management methods (e.g. MSP, RIBA, BIM, PRINCE2)
  • Contract negotiation and issue resolution
  • Fully proficient with programme planning and management principles, tools and workflow
  • Proficient with modern collaboration platforms and tools (e.g. Monday.com; Miro; MS 365/Teams)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fully proficient with Microsoft Office (particularly PowerPoint and Excel)
