We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Biodiversity Manager to join our team at Forest Carbon (FC). The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the execution of biodiversity monitoring plans in our project portfolio, including but not limited to the annual SMPP Biodiversity Monitoring Plan, and provide additional support to the SMPP team leader. This position is based in Jakarta and Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatra, with the possibility of traveling to other FC projects.

MAIN DUTIES

1. Advising on the efficiency and efficacy of project activities and biodiversity monitoring plans for documenting net biodiversity benefits aligned with the CCB Standards.

2. Leading process and systems improvement as it relates to improving the execution of our biodiversity monitoring plans on the ground in SMPP and across FC’s project portfolio.

3. Implementing a range of biodiversity (and biodiversity indicator) survey techniques (and training local project staff in these techniques) as required, including :

·Camera trap (mostly for mammals)

·Point count surveys (for birds)

·Passive acoustic listening post surveys (for gibbons)

·Implementing SMART software or other software for improved biodiversity monitoring on project area patrols.

·Support water table level measurements (daily from dip wells at patrol posts and monthly from dip wells in other parts of the project area).

4. Accompanying patrol teams as required to ensure that biodiversity aspects of patrols are being implemented correctly and documented accurately in the SMART or other software applications.

5. Processing and analyzing biodiversity field data and ensuring that data is being collected and inputted correctly for summary and analysis at the headquarters Office.

6. Assisting with and advising on project activities aimed at delivering net biodiversity benefits.

7. Bi-monthly reporting to the headquarter office on biodiversity monitoring activities and biodiversity conservation outcomes.

8. Presenting the biodiversity status of the project and biodiversity monitoring activities to investors and other visitors to the project area.

9. Participating in relevant workshops and conferences as required.

10. Train and conduct knowledge transfer to new biodiversity staff across to FC’s Project portfolio and SMPP.

11. Travel to new project sites to lead the establishment of new biodiversity monitoring systems.

12. Other tasks and duties assigned by the Director/Project Lead/Board of Management.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

1. Bachelor's degree in forestry, environmental science, geography, sustainable development, business administration, or a related field.

2. Have at least 7 years of professional experience in forest conservation, forest restoration, natural resource management, and sustainable development in Indonesia (Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java, Sulawesi, Papua).

3. Accustomed and willing to work in remote and inland areas and the majority of the time working in field sites (project areas).

4. Have experience in implementing community, climate, and Biodiversity standards (CCB standard).

5. Possess multicultural management skills with diverse and specific approaches.

6. Result oriented and able to work with minimum supervision.

7. Highly dedicated to conservation, sustainable development, and climate change issues.

8. Skilled in using Indonesian, English, and/or local languages both orally and in writing is highly preferred.

9. Able to make reports and make presentations needed to support the continuity of the project.

10. Able to work in teams and manage teams.
