Summary

The Management Accountant is a critical role within the Finance team, as well as being an integral part of the wider business, engaging with colleagues and external stakeholders at all levels on a daily basis.

The successful candidate will take primary responsibility for all aspects of Finance Operations, and financial outputs on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. They will work closely alongside the Finance Business Partner to provide insightful management information that aids strategic decision making and drives growth in Annual Recurring Revenues (ARR) and profitability. Furthermore, the role will support in maintaining and enhancing the financial control and risk management framework, as well as driving process and system improvements, ensuring an operating environment that is robust, sustainable and scalable.

Purpose

As Glean continues to grow, the demands on the Finance team are ever-increasing. There is the requirement to respond quickly and precisely to enquiries from a range of internal and external stakeholders, whilst managing day-to-day tasks and ensuring monthly, quarterly and annual deliverables are met. There is also the need to enhance our agile reporting capability, providing fast, accurate and insightful analysis of performance against our forecast for a range of financial and non-financial KPIs, to highlight areas of success and provide scrutiny on aspects of underperformance.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly management accounts, with insightful commentary and analysis of financial performance.
  • Acting as a go-point of contact for queries from your colleagues across the business, ensuring high engagement with the Finance function. 
  • Ownership of month end close process, ensuring all transactions, reconciliations and other tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with external accountants and advisors in the preparation of year end statutory accounts, tax returns and other financial and compliance matters for both the UK and US businesses.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles (FRS 102) and company policies, maintain a strong system of internal controls and financial procedures, as well as making recommendations to enhance and strengthen the financial control environment.
  • Manage the day-to-day financial operations including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, banking, and VAT.
  • Maintain ownership of accounting systems, including the Xero chart of accounts.
  • Provide recommendations for process and system improvements to optimise financial operations.
  • Identify risks and opportunities, and recommend actions to improve business performance.
  • Ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required to support key business initiatives.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience 

Essential 

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
  • Previous experience in a management accounting role.
  • Proficient in accounting software, spreadsheets and financial models.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Ability to exercise sound judgement and make data-driven decisions. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • High ethical standards, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple concurrent tasks.

Desirable

  • 2+ years’ post-qualification experience
  • Experience with Xero highly preferable
  • Understanding of, or experience working in, a SaaS business
  • Previous line management experience

£42,000 - £45,000 dependent on experience
