So Energy was created in 2015 because we knew energy suppliers could be better. Since then, we’ve grown rapidly but sustainably, with 300,000+ customers and over 300 So Energists. But, we’re not done. We’re on the road to a million customers by the end of 2026 and, thanks to our recent merger with ESB Energy, we’re well on the way. We’re tech first, we’re customer-centric and we’re passionate about sustainability.

We want to do the best we can for our customers and for each other, so we’ve created a workplace that is encouraging, supportive and offers the opportunity for growth. As a company, we live by six core values that guide everything we do:

  • Clear
  • Honest
  • Ambitious
  • Inquisitive
  • Caring
  • Sustainable

The Role:

As an experienced Lead Product Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to shape our ambitions to grow So Energy. With your own ideas for growth opportunities, and working with other stakeholders and their ideas, you will work collaboratively with your product squads to discover, validate, slice, deliver, launch and run new customer-centric experiences. Opportunities will span our core energy business, energy independence initiatives like Solar & Battery, and other services that broaden So Energy’s value to customers. As well as our customers, we have a range of internal users such as agents and operations teams, whose needs also need to be considered. A strong Lead / Principal Product Manager will have experience thinking holistically about the product including its value, usability, feasibility to build, and business viability to run.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead our Product Growth domain including management of 1-2 product managers across our Sales, Retention & Off-boarding and Energy Independence.
  • Develop strong relationships with stakeholders in the Growth Team, Energy Independence, Trading, Sales, Customer Services and Operations, Regulations and other departments as the need arises.
  • With your direct reports, know when to delegate and when to step-in. Develop a coaching first approach with them, helping them to shape their roadmaps. Avoid micro-management while keeping tabs on critical details.
  • Work inclusively with the broader product-engineering squad team members including engineers, designers, quality assurance and architecture. Create an environment where each skillset can contribute their creativity to the problems and opportunities being prioritised.
  • Lead on strategic validation of opportunities, taking a key role in deciding whether they should start or not with an experiment-first approach – collaborating closely with the rest of the Growth Team.
  • Clearly articulate and present your strategic vision, ideas, validations, hypotheses, risks and issues, adapting to the diverse range of stakeholders you need to engage with.
  • Utilise a quantitative and qualitative data-driven approach that will inform and challenge existing journeys and how we optimise, deprecate, and build new features to keep our customers happy and get them to champion our brand and experience.
  • Apply iterative, agile development principles and bring others on that journey considering techniques like user story mapping, lean slicing, building and launching quickly to learn from real world feedback.
  • Develop our collective knowledge base with considered documentation using a range of tools such as Jira, Confluence, Miro.
  • On occasion, proxy for the Head of Product in senior cross-department meetings.

Requirements

The energy market has evolved significantly over the last two years, and we are working with dynamic regulatory and policy needs:

  • Accordingly, we need a clear communicator, with passion, energy and focused determination to drive forwards strong product thinking.
  • You will be deeply comfortable with ambiguity, with a strong bias to action to get the answers you need.
  • As a leader, you will be skilled at empowering the product managers reporting into you.
  • You will excel at balancing their need for development with their need for support and constructive feedback, knowing when to lead them from the front or steer from behind.
  • As part of this, you will have a close relationship with the Head of Product and help shape the future of the product team.

Benefits

  • 25 days holiday, plus bank holidays, and an extra day holiday for your birthday
  • Personal Learning & Development Budget
  • Hybrid Remote Working
  • Great reward and recognition
  • Join a unique culture that embraces people's ideals and fosters collaboration across the business
  • Enhanced Maternity and Paternity leave
  • Access to Perk-box+ including the Wellness Hub and Salary Sacrifice Tech Purchase scheme
  • Life assurance 4x base salary
