About the role

We're looking for a Sole Legal Counsel to own and establish our legal frameworks and processes here at ZOE. As our first Legal hire, you'll have autonomy in setting up the legal function for a potential future unicorn, where you'll have varied responsibilities from contract, IP and data protection, to managing legal spend and compliance projects.

Scope of work...

Reviewing, improving & establishing our legal frameworks and processes, including contract, IP, regulatory compliance, and data protection First-line support of commercial, contracting, and IP matters External support coordination (including co-ordination of/with existing legal advisors working on regulatory, IP, patents & trademarks, funding, corporate finance, and specialised commercial/contracting topics) Managing legal spend Internal (legal) compliance projects, including implementation of privacy requirements Contract management projects Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws and regulations.

Key Skills

A UK qualified lawyer with ideally 5 – 10 PQE All-round sharp legal background including contracting, corporate, IP, regulation, privacy Hands-on, easy to work with, strong moral compass more important than perfectionism A go getter who is happy to work in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment Someone who lives up to ZOE’s company values Ability to work with internal senior stakeholders and external legal advisors Strong communicator, who can explain complex concepts succinctly and appealingly.

Desired skills

Previous experience expanding into the US Experience with Data Privacy/GDPR Knowledge of and experience in consumer-facing, data-intensive business Work experience as an in-house counsel is valuable but not necessary Work experience with venture capital backed companies
