DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a teacher in need, moving us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education.

Since 2000, more than 5 million people and partners have contributed $1 billion to support 2 million teacher requests for classroom resources and experiences. Projects range from art supplies to build the set for a school musical, to books and puzzles that affirm students’ identities, to bird seed for an at-home science project. We proudly serve all US public schools, public charter schools, and Head Start centers, and we combat systemic inequity by driving a majority of donations to schools that have been historically underfunded due to economic and racial inequity.

DonorsChoose has been recognized as a best place to work by GOOD Magazine and the Nonprofit Times, while Fast Company named DonorsChoose one of the 50 Most Innovative Companies in the World—the first time a charity has made this list. Our dedicated team works from across the United States bring classroom dreams to life.

About the Trust & Safety Team

The Trust & Safety Operations team makes DonorsChoose a charity people can trust. We protect the integrity of the DonorsChoose mission so that students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education. We do this by creating user-focused policies, developing systems to prevent fraud and ensure security, monitoring and taking swift action to investigate potential misuse, and more—all in support of fighting inequity, and particularly racial inequity, in public education.

About the Role

As a critical member of the Trust & Safety team, you’ll combine your proven analytical, project management, relationship building, and communication skills with a deep knowledge of our customers and our product to enable a safe, secure experience for more than 500,000 teachers and donors who visit our website each year.

In this role you will:

  • Own and develop reporting. You’ll own, develop, build, and measure performance on Trust & Safety health metrics to measure trust and identify emerging risks.
  • Inform strategic decisions. You’ll use large quantities of data to spot emerging risks and trends. You’ll analyze data to develop insights that drive and inform our strategic decisions and ensure our Trust & Safety efforts are both effective and efficient.
  • Influence policies and processes. You’ll develop innovative solutions and evolve team processes and policies to reduce manual effort and uphold the integrity of our mission.
  • Understand user impact of policies. You’ll be an expert in what moves key Trust & Safety metrics and conduct analysis that results in actionable insight to increase the integrity of our platform.
  • Inform product decisions. You’ll use data and research to generate new ideas and identify areas of opportunity to build trust and reduce risk org-wide.
  • Manage org-wide projects. You’ll spearhead and project manage product and policy-related improvements for Trust & Safety that fall within your purview. You’ll ensure that stakeholders are in the loop, and the individual needs/concerns of these teams are represented on an ongoing basis.
  • Evaluation and prioritization of user risk. You’ll own intake for Trust & Safety related consults to advise on user risk for new and developing internal initiatives.

Your typical week might look like:

  • Investigate a risky pattern reported by Trust & Safety Specialists and use SQL and Looker to determine the frequency and impact of the behavior. Create a recommendation on how to build integrity measures to prevent that behavior. Present recommendations in writing and verbally to the Product Team and org leadership. Manage supporting projects that may involve cross-team collaboration to completion. (40%)
  • Work with Trust & Safety leadership to identify opportunities for more efficient risk monitoring processes. Create a new process and concisely document it so that team members can easily execute it. Track and report impact of the process change over time. (30%)

  • Work with a Partnership Manager on a new funding opportunity. Evaluate the risk of the funding opportunity and create a Looker report to monitor for various risks. Determine acceptable risk thresholds and create a clear comprehensive process for Trust & Safety Specialists to follow at each threshold. Monitor the impact of these efforts. (10%)
