TERN's Makers & Creators supports the unique needs of makers, artists & designers with refugee background who are launching a business in the arts and creative sector.
The programme includes tailored support to entrepreneurs who want to start a London-based crafts, fashion, design, or creative services business. They’ll have access to benefits like:
- entrepreneurial skills workshops
- a dedicated mentor from the creative industries (you!)
- 1-1 Coaching
- a free website & brand
- route to market opportunities in markets & ecommerce platforms
TERN is seeking established creative industry professionals, practitioners or entrepreneurs who have a craft, fashion, arts, performance and/or design background to join the programme as mentors. It's important that all M&C mentors have experience in the artistic & creative sectors whether as a hobby, passion, career or side hustle.
The role:
- Get matched with one entrepreneur and spend 1-3 hours/week meeting with them & supporting their creative business development between early November 2023 & early April 2024.
- Work with your mentee 1-1 as a cheerleader & sounding board, a connector to creative and arts industry networks, and in a hands-on way to support in the development of their business assets.
- A chance to make a deep & tangible impact in someone’s journey using your hard-earned special skills!
Your input and participation will impact one entrepreneur's journey deeply, providing support, direction & accountability as they work through the programme to launch their creative business.
Mentors are a core part of TERN's business support ecosystem: entrepreneurs report gaining long-lasting professional skills, heightened confidence and sense of self-belief, and greater sense of belonging in business & the UK after working with their mentors.
Mentors report they feel they learn a lot from their experience- about launching a business, different sectors, mentorship, social enterprise, and about involuntary displacement. Many come back year after year!
