The part time CEO would join a well-run and established organisation, supporting several projects and people.
In partnership with the Board, the CEO would produce a strategic plan for next 3 – 5 years.
The CEO would be given full responsibility for implementing the charity’s strategic plan, supported by a committed and active Board of Trustees.
Key Requirements
- Will in partnership with the Board, produce a Strategic Plan that details the charity’s strategy for the next 3 -5 years.
- Will develop and ensure maintenance of existing relationships and establishment of new ones that will fulfil the strategy.
- Will take responsibility for the financial soundness of the charity, working closely with employees.
- Ensure governance in line with Charity Commission and work closely with the Trustee committee.
Specific Responsibilities
Governance, Strategy and Planning:-
- In partnership with the Board, produce a Strategic Plan that details the charity’s strategy for the next 3 to 5 years.
- Ensure implementation of the business plan, monitor and report to the Board.
Leadership and Management:-
- Manage the 2 people team of charity’s staff to ensure that they are supported to achieve the charity’s goals.
- Ensure existing systems are developed and maintained to achieve the charity’s strategic plan.
- Monitor and minimise all risks that may endanger the Charity’s reputation, operations and financial position.
- Ensure that the Charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements and work towards standards of excellence as set out by the Charity Commission.
- Overseeing the fundraising operation, developing high level relationships with donors and exploring new funding opportunities.
Programme Work:-
- Ensure existing programme work is on track, on budget and in line with the charity’s programmatic objectives.
- Evaluate new programme proposals and make recommendations to the board for new programme approvals.
- Develop and maintain high-level relationships with key personnel within the in-country partners that we work. This could include visits to the programmes currently in Uganda and Ghana.
- Monitor the impact of our programmes and ensure that donors funds are being used efficiently.
Communications:-
- Maintain awareness of the charity’s work by supervising the social media presence, newsletters and planning and hosting online events.
Financial Management:-
- Take responsibility for the financial soundness of the charity, working closely with the Finance Manager.
- Prepare and review budgets, management accounts and forecasts.
- Report regularly to the Board of Trustees to enable them to monitor performance.
Desirable Experience:-
- Leadership role in either a commercial or not-for-profit environment with a successful track record of organisational development.
- Operational business experience in Africa, in particular Uganda and Ghana, would be an additional bonus.
- Familiarity with managing good business practices – business planning, compliance, risk management, quality assurance and governance.
- Proven track record in partnership building.
- An understanding of good governance and the ability to work successfully with a Board.
- Experience of staff management.

- A strategic thinker, able to take initiative, work independently, formulate and implement strategies on behalf of the Board of Trustees.
- An experienced communicator, comfortable in the company of people from a wide range of backgrounds and able to build relationships, trust and confidence.
- A leader with strong emotional intelligence, sensitive to the needs of staff.
