What will you be doing?

We need someone with the right skill set to initially assess and fix a few bugs with our Wave Project App. The app was created 18 months ago under a grant with an individual app developer and then a second phase with AND digital. However, a lack of funding has meant we've struggled to monitor and maintain it in the last 6-months. We are open to someone wanting to maybe initially help fix for a shorter period rather than continue to monitor, or vice versa!

The app allows our staff to create water sessions, courses and events for our volunteers to then book on. It also allows staff members to add young people with profiles to each course and or session.  Our 'surf club' members i.e parents of young people can book surf club sessions available in areas close to them. This has a small payment scheme. It notifies users when new sessions are available in their region It speaks to Capsule or CRM.

Key Deliverable: 1. return the app to working order 2. continue app maintenance.  As the person to handle the previous app relationship, I will work with the volunteer. Our head of operations will also provide insight and support. We'd be looking for someone willing to feedback and communicate with us about progress. If this role doesn't suit you but you'd like to help in other ways please do drop a message.

What are we looking for?

We are happy with the UI of the app. Instead we are looking for someone able to assess and fix functional problems. Examples of some bugs identified:

Parents of 'surf clubbers' are unable to book on to sessions  Some new volunteer 'Surf Mentors' are unable to sign up or find the app Our Staff members have reported the app crashing when trying to create a 6-week course.  Full Tech Stack: React NativeFirebaseRetoolStripeCapsuleJestExpo/React native libraryInstall on air

Debugging Skills: Ability to identify and diagnose issues in the codebase, including understanding error messages, using debugging tools, and tracing through the code to locate bugs. Understanding of Software Development: Knowledge of software development principles, including best practices for coding, version control (e.g., Git), testing methodologies (unit testing, integration testing), and debugging techniquesI will be able to provide a handover with more details.

What difference will you make?

The App is an incredible asset to our charity's mission. It reduces the workload of each project coordinator which is essential to providing high-quality social impact programmes. This also enables our aim to grow and reach more young people.  It allows our UK-wide community to connect with different locations - harnessing the power of a solidarity community. Each volunteer registered is trained and DBS checked, meaning the app creates a safe space to book onto the course. Finally, our 'surf club offer' allows families to book onto session they want to attend - the app has improved this uptake massively.
