What will you be doing?

Somali Advice Link is dedicated to assisting the Somali community, as well as other asylum seekers, migrants, and refugees in Manchester. Our goal is to help these groups develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need, along with building social networks that will enable them to integrate into and contribute positively to their community. Our charity has recently achieved the status of a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). We are currently working towards obtaining the NCVO Trusted Charity Mark. At present, we are in the self-assessment stage, seeking assistance to help us evaluate and meet the standards of the 11 Quality Areas as outlined by the NCVO. Specifically, we are looking for someone who could assist in our self-assessment. The commitment would be 8 hours a week at most, and the specific day can be decided entirely by the volunteer.

What are we looking for?

Identifying specific skills or expertise is challenging in this regard. Ideally, we seek individuals who have contributed to obtaining the NCVO Trusted Quality Mark for charities they have worked for or volunteered with in the past. We value experience in successfully navigating the process and understanding the intricacies involved in achieving this esteemed mark of quality within the charity sector.

What difference will you make?

The impact of your assistance would be invaluable, not only for the charity but also for the community we serve. We provide essential services, including advice and support on debt, housing, health, benefits, education/employment/training, council services, and referrals. Additionally, we offer basic English language, IT, and work club services. Acquiring the NCVO Trusted Charity Mark is crucial for enhancing the value of our charity. It would enable us to expand our services and provide even more support to our community than we currently offer. We firmly believe that charities like ours play a necessary role in assisting immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers not only in settling in Britain but also in fully integrating into British society and becoming productive citizens. This impact extends far beyond our charity and the community we serve, reaching the entire UK.
