What will you be doing?

The Unit ADMIN OFFICER is responsible for the adminstration of this busy Sea Cadet Unit. The Unit is part of the National Sea Cadet Corps but it is a Stand Alone Registered Charity. There are a number of uniformed Volunteers who undertake the training assisted by Civilian Instructors. A Unit Management team of Trustees oversees the work of the work and undertakes a governance role. The ADMIN OFFICER is responsible to the Commanding Officer for the weekly administration of the Unit. This includes keeping personnel records for adults and cadets up to date and recording attendance at parades. The Unit uses a Sea Cadet Information Mangement System to administer the Unit. Full training will be given on its operation including an online course. In co-operation with the Commanding Officer and UMT Chair the Admin Officer keeps the management database up to date. As the Officer works in an environment with young people aged 12 to 18 an enhanced DBS criminal record check will need to be undertaken before work can be started.  Safeguarding training will also be given. Good IT skills would be an advantage as programmes such as word and excel are also used by the Unit. The ADMIN OFFICER will be working with volunteers from  a wide range of backgrounds. He/She will also have contact with young people - many of whom come from deprived backgrounds. There will be opportunities to assist with fund raising activities and other unit events. The Unit parades on Tuesday and Friday evenings at the Army Reserve Centre in Hanley. Attendance is flexible but one parade each week should be the average attendance

What are we looking for?

Working in Voluntary sector. Good IT Skills - using databases and Windows/Office Sound administration experience

What difference will you make?

The Admin Officer is crucial to the smooth running of the Unit. The post frees the training staff to provide a full and varied programme to the Cadets. This programme gives the cadets opportunities that are not available to them outside of the Unit. As a result it increases their aspirations for their future Lives.
