What will you be doing?

Stroud Community Agriculture is a cooperative set up as an Industrial & Provident Society. Its aim is to integrate community and agriculture by managing a mixed, sustainable and environmentally responsible farm for the benefit of everyone involved. SCA is more than just a veg box scheme: it’s a community. We offer a new model for sustainable farming. We provide a weekly share of healthy, organic vegetables to 250 local families within a circular economy model and with minimal CO2 emissions. As a community-supported agriculture cooperative we rely on mutual support so that the risks and rewards of farming are shared between the farmers and consumers.  We have an exceptional Farm Team who manage the farm, supported by a ‘Core Group’ of Directors in a governance & strategic oversight role who, collectively handle administration & finance matters & who each lead on a specific area according to their interests & skills: events organising; community outreach; member engagement; HR; governance & legal; communications; biodynamic farming; IT We'd love to hear from you if you have skills in any of the above roles. Above all, we’re looking for people with confident decision-making skills and an ability to see the bigger picture. You may also need to occasionally provide hands-on support for one off events. As with all small farms, we face challenges of balancing the cost we can charge for our produce with what our members can afford, rising energy & production costs; unpredictable weather as a result of climate change & a shortage of affordable housing for our workers in this rural area. But, this will be a rewarding & inspiring experience which could be really beneficial in developing your personal career goals & interests: being part of a cooperative also involves capacity-building for all members including those on the core group, so you will be supported to develop skills in new areas and will be welcome to volunteer on the farm as well if you enjoy getting your hands dirty!  Core Group members usually expect to serve for 2 or 3 years. Directors must be members of SCA so this role is ideal for someone who shares our aims and values and would like to join: we've even currently got some veg shares available to you can even get a weekly share of our farm's produce! For more information about SCA and how to join, see our website.

What are we looking for?

We're looking for people with any of the skills in the key areas described above. But, above all, the ideal people will have confident decision-making skills and an ability to see the bigger picture and will share our passion for fresh, healthy food and building strong local communities.

What difference will you make?

By helping our farm to grow & thrive you will be helping to safeguard local jobs: increase the resilience of our local food network, providing fresh, healthy local food is available to families in Stroud; protect and regenerate the land; demonstrate a new, sustainable model of farming & local food production; & support people to re-connect with the land.
