What will you be doing?
The Theatre Shed is an inclusive theatre company made up of performers ranging in age from 6 years old to adult; with and without disabilities. The ethos of the company is that everyone has an idea to share, music to make or a dance that needs to be seen and experienced. Our Mentors use their experience and skills in education, arts, SEN and performance to encourages members to find their individual voices and express their creativity. They support members to take part in full performances, events, workshops and other events. We also run a weekly allotment project in Chesham.
What are we looking for?
Mentors will have experience working with children and young people. Additional experience supporting people with disabilities, sensory needs and other needs an advantage. Experience of performing and/or visual arts would be helpful. An ability to work as part of a team is a must. A love of theatre and/or supporting others is important to TTS. Patience and a calm, polite manner are qualities that we look for in Mentors. In return mentors will receive termly training, an experience unlike any other, the opportunity to give back to the community and a hance to work alongside some amazing people!
What difference will you make?
Our Mentors ensure that anyone and everyone who wants to access performance can, supporting individuals to access the material. Often these are performers who may need social communication support, backing when sharing ideas or someone to support them when navigating around a space. There are also opportunities for Mentors to support small groups to share ideas and collaborate on a variety of projects. Mentors are the people who make the difference for the performers and really show that anything is possible. Workshops and activities run in Chesham, Amersham and High Wycombe.
