What will you be doing?
We are looking for a minimum of two independent non-executive board members, who can help us to deliver our objectives at a pivotal moment. After many years as a project funded company we are looking to secure regular funding in order to fulfil our commitment to transforming dance in Wales. We need board members with energy and ambition, who share our passion for dance, our vision to transform who gets to make and experience it and our mission to break down barriers to dance by those who have been locked out of opportunities such as young Deaf people and those who are rurally isolated. We are seeking people who are willing to give their time and bring new perspectives and approaches to how we should operate. We would like to attract people who are representative of the people we are working with. We are also looking for a new Chairperson who has the expertise to lead the board and company during the next exciting chapter, as we anxiously wait for news on regular funding from Arts Council of Wales’ Investment Review Process. Therefore this could be an ideal opportunity for someone to take on the vital role to help us successful achieve our ambition to be a permanent part of Wales’ cultural landscape and to ensure dance is rightfully at the centre of it. We welcome applications from those who are currently underrepresented in the arts and dance sectors in Wales including: young people, people who are Deaf or hard of hearing, disabled and neurodiverse people, LGBTQIA+ people, and people from Black, South Asian, East Asian, Middle Eastern and mixed heritage backgrounds, and especially those who identify as women. We are especially keen to hear from young people or those who've not been on boards before, we have a trustee buddy scheme for first time trustees where current trustees will support new members, offering guidance and support. We encourage people who use BSL to apply. We can accommodate different access needs such as BSL interpretation.
What are we looking for?
What you will bring to the role ● Abilities, experience and/or interest in any of the following areas;
Environmental sustainability Legal Access & Diversity Human Resources Participation and Education Marketing & Communications Financial management International production and touring
● Ability and/or desire to shape strategy, sustain robust governance, and monitor performance in the organisation ● Share JtD’s commitment to leading the diversification of Wales’ arts ecology ● Ability to make an active contribution to supporting JtD’s fundraising aims ● Understanding and acceptance of legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship ● Appreciation of JtD’s work and ethos, and willingness to contribute actively to its future development.
What difference will you make?
As part of our board you will support us to innovate, expand and provide accessible opportunities in dance in Wales and help us achieve our mission to break-down barriers and perceptions of who can dance, who can make it and who can enjoy it, how dance is made and where it happens, and why that matters. Dance has the power to be transformative, from a single moment to a lifetime, and creating those moments is key to making sure that everyone no matter their background has the opportunity to experience that and you will help us do this. We are keenly interested in hearing from people with expertise in environmental sustainability who will have a real impact on our commitment to achieving our net zero target. As a Welsh company we welcome those who are Welsh speakers who can support us to achieve our goals of becoming fully bilingual and as we are working more and more with Deaf people we would love to hear from a Deaf person who uses BSL. By being part of JtD’s board you will have opportunities to broaden your horizons, develop experience and skills in running a not for profit organisation/charity, financial reporting, artistic decision making, marketing strategies and campaigning, advocacy, business planning and project development.
