What will you be doing?
Our trustees come from diverse backgrounds and meet every 6 weeks to ensure the smooth-running of The Squad. As Chair of Trustees of The Squad, the commitment and energy which you contribute will make a direct and tangible difference to the charity and everyone it helps to support. Our club is split into two age groups 14 - 25 years (our Juniors Club) and 25 years+ (our Vets Club). What are we looking for?
A motivated individual with leadership experience who would like to use their professional or other experience to lead our Board and the development of an ambitious long term growth strategy for a local charity. An individual with the confidence to lead and provide strategic guidance to a diverse Board from a variety of backgrounds and professions We particularly welcome applicants based in or around the Wimbledon area, who are able to help The Squad to build connections within the local community and are able to attend and support occasional club nights. An individual who communicates effectively, bringing tact, diplomacy, and an inclusive leadership style to the role Someone with experience of working on a committee or Board, who can be a driving force for action in the charity As our current Board is geographically dispersed, applicants should be comfortable working in a remote team and communicating via Zoom, email and telephone.
Further information
You will occasionally support club nights and work directly with our leaders, volunteers and members. Depending on your experience and interest, you will work with other board members and club leaders on specific fundraising, strategic or operational projects. The Squad club itself is based in South Wimbledon, but we ask trustees to attend board meetings every 6 weeks on Zoom and to attend Thursday evening clubs 2 - 3 times per year.

Experience of working in the third sector/understanding of the needs and issues faced by a small charity Willingness to attend both clubs on as required basis to forge better understanding of the organisation.

The Chair of Trustees is a key leadership role to drive forward the charity's ambitious and exciting plans around renewal and growth as we shift up a gear from our post-Pandemic recovery, looking ahead to the future. Not only will you steer the Board to ensure the charity is thriving financially and governed appropriately, you will also be harnessing the skills and experience of our enthusiastic and experienced Board and volunteers to support our members and to continue the organisation's thirty year legacy. Your work will help us achieve our vision of creating a member-first community that provides empowering social opportunities to enable adults and young people with learning disabilities to live their lives, be included, to have their voice heard and make their own choices.
