What will you be doing?

Our current Chair is stepping down after five years and describes the Board as, "strong, happy and united".  We need a new Chair to direct SCCCC towards achieving its mission, oversee the organisation’s development and ensure that it is effectively managed. You will work with the Board of trustees and the Chief Executive, providing leadership and actively contributing to setting policy and strategic direction. There is a full role description in the candidate pack.

What are we looking for?

This is a pro-bono position with rewards other than money. It needs someone who will be enthused by our work and who can use their skills, vision and leadership ability to make a real difference to our organisation. A general background in strategy, governance, finance, HR, fundraising would be useful. Previous experience as a Chair or trustee would be welcomed. Key qualities:

A knowledge of and commitment to the work of the organisation and a willingness to devote time to carry out responsibilities. Experience of chairing meetings, committee work, some experience of charity finance, charity fundraising. Good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to respect confidence. Supportive and confident leadership style. Balancing tact and diplomacy and willingness to speak their mind. Strategic and forward looking vision in relation to the charity’s objects and aims. Good, independent judgement, political impartiality and the ability to think creatively in the context of the organisation and external environment. Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship and adhering to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

What difference will you make?

Our trustees work for SCCCC voluntarily to make sure we’re doing all we can to reach and improve the lives of older people.  "As a ward sister and then a nurse manager at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals I have appreciated the help and support that SCCCC offer older people in their own homes and in the transition from hospital to home. My professional career has been focussed on older people in the acute hospital setting and in the community and I have worked closely with the local authority, local health services, various voluntary and charitable organisations. Having now retired from the health service I am delighted to have become a trustee in 2018".  Linda Browell, Trustee
