What will you be doing?

Do you have the qualification and training to counsel primary-aged children on a range of personal issues, challenges and emotions (often related to family breakdown)? South Cheshire CLASP counsellors work in local primary schools and at our premises in Crewe. Would you be prepared to see clients for half or a full day each week? Could you carry out the light admin associated with recording counselling sessions? If so, we would really appreciate your help and would be very interested in talking with you.

What are we looking for?

Essential skills and qualities:

qualified to Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling level, or beyond experience counselling children under 11 or extensive experience working with children in another capacity such as teaching be prepared to counsel at several different locations (We reimburse travel expenses to appointments.)   have your own transport as you are likely to be at two or maybe three locations in one day the ability to keep information about clients and other service users confidential be calm, caring, reliable, punctual be a member of the BACP willing to abide by the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions (2018)

What difference will you make?

South Cheshire CLASP supports single parents and their children. Counselling is the most widely-accessed service. The waiting list for children and young people's counselling is currently several months. We believe that children should be able to see a counsellor sooner than this. Having more counsellors means that children and young people won't have to wait as long for this much-needed support. As a volunteer counsellor, you will have the opportunity to improve the lives of local children and young people.

What is in it for you?

South Cheshire CLASP is a small, friendly charity with warm, caring staff. You would join a team of supportive staff and volunteers, and have the chance to improve the lives of local children from lone parent families. Monthly supervision is provided, and the opportunity to talk over how you feel things are going. You would also be able to participate in regular training opportunities on a range of topics. A reference can be provided after 4 months of regular volunteering.
