Role Summary

  • Develop and implement a roadmap to achieve net zero carbon targets for Wellcome’s direct investment property portfolio.

Role Requirements

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

We are looking for a Senior Investment Property Sustainability Manager to join our Investments team, to help operationalise and implement Wellcome’s carbon net zero strategy for its direct investment property holdings, as part of the commitment made for the Investment portfolio to be net zero by 2050 at the latest.

You will be leading the initiative to decarbonise Wellcome’s direct property investment holdings and be part of the Investments – Property team reporting to one of the Investments Principal. This role is part of the Investments team that manages Wellcome’s £37bn endowment, from which profits fund the charitable mission.

The Senior Investment Property Sustainability Manager will establish a roadmap to deliver the net zero carbon targets and strategy we have set for our direct investment property holdings. These include a historic London estate in South Kensington that Wellcome has owned since 1995 and comprises over 1,500 units of freehold ground rents, residential and commercial properties, plus other London residential and commercial properties including several developments.

We are looking for someone with substantial manager-level experience in real estate and sustainability including establishing and / or delivering on net zero strategies and roadmaps. Deep subject matter expertise across carbon net zero and broader ESG topics relating to property and the broader market and policy backdrop. Demonstrable ability to evaluate and balance the opportunities and risks that comes with decarbonising property. Adept problem-solving capabilities, preferably with a focus on overcoming the constraints of achieving sustainability objectives for investment property. Excellent project management skills, including extensive experience delivering complex multi-stakeholder initiatives on time and budget. Highly proficient IT skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
