What will you be doing?
You will:
Take the lead on working with colleagues on developing innovative and effective funding strategies. In particular, you will work with the Director, Finance and the Director, Business Development, to explore possibilities for income diversification. Apply and develop your existing knowledge of funding sources and opportunities. Advise us on funding approaches we have considered but not yet implemented, such as crowdfunding. Look at local and regional authority funding opportunities, such as Section 106 and Community Infrastructure Levy funding. Identify and cultivate individual, corporate and institutional funding prospects. Create appropriate tools and documentation to maximise the effectiveness and management of bidding processes. With the involvement of appropriate colleagues, prepare applications, submissions and bids, and monitor them through to conclusion. Keep your fellow Directors and volunteers up to date on fundraising activities.
What are we looking for?
We see this as very much more than a bid-writing role. So, we are looking for someone who can bring imagination as well as broad background knowledge and experience to the challenge of creating a versatile and effective fundraising programme for us. We would expect you to be willing and able to work closely with colleagues to achieve this goal, and to have sufficient financial and general management awareness to enable you to do so. Additionally, an interest in and some experience of heritage management would be highly valued, as would a general interest in industrial and social history. In return, we offer you the opportunity to play a key role in an enthusiastic and ambitious organisation which seeks to continue to develop its active engagement with visitors, volunteers, members, and the wider community. We encourage and support volunteer education and development, so you will have the opportunity to enhance your existing skills where appropriate.
What difference will you make?
Your skills and expertise will be vital in enabling us to develop a funding and income diversification strategy that will allow us to move forward in achieving our objective, as embodied in our five-year Business Plan, of becoming a top heritage attraction, a significant reference centre for industrial history, and a local community asset.
