What will you be doing?

Glasgow Tool Library is a community-led charity that aims to radically change the way we access and manage resources. Our mission is to build a sustainable and inclusive alternative to consumerism that promotes community wellbeing and empowerment. The service works like a regular library, but instead of books, people can access an extensive selection of tools and equipment for their homes, gardens, hobbies and adventures.   Our Board of Trustees ensures that the organisation fulfills all its governance and legal requirements and operates efficiently. It maintains an overview of policy and strategic direction rather than being involved in day-to-day operations. We are now looking for an experienced Chairperson to oversee our governance and help Glasgow Tool Library take the next step in its future development towards promoting sharing over shopping.  Key Responsibilities:

Lead the board of trustees in setting the charity's strategic direction and goals  Ensure that the charity's mission is fulfilled and that it operates in accordance with its values and principles  Oversee the charity's finances, including budgeting, fundraising, and financial reporting  Oversee the recruitment and management of staff (currently 2 part time, paid employees) and voluinteers  Ensure that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements  Act as an ambassador for Glasgow Tool Library, promoting our aims and values   Develop and maintain relationships with OSCR and key stakeholders, including government agencies, other charities and community groups  Monitor and evaluate the charity's performance and impact, and make recommendations for improvement

What are we looking for?

Requirements:

Experience in nonprofit management, including experience in a leadership role  Strong leadership, with the ability to focus discussions, and steer towards consensus decision-making  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders  Strong financial management skills, with experience in budgeting, fundraising, and financial reporting  Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements for charities  Commitment to the charity's mission and values

What difference will you make?

Glasgow Tool Library has recently gone through a period of transition and growth and we are looking for people with the experience and commitment to help us take the next step in our development.  We have exciting plans to grow our service and increase our impact, but we need the right combination of people who can help us achieve this. An experienced Chair is a vital role that will help improve our governance, enabling us to people save money, reduce waste, and promote a circular economy in Glasgow.
