Role Summary

Role Requirements

  • Proven success in leading fundraising campaigns and securing major gifts.

  • Experience in marketing campaigns and digital marketing tools.
  • Desirable: 5+ years in fundraising/communication in the non-profit sector and passion for mental health advocacy.
  • Right to work in the UK and will undergo a DBS check.

We are recruiting an exceptional and experienced Head of fundraising to work closely with the chief executive and the board of trustees to lead and manage the growth of Black Minds Matter UK’s fundraising activity. This exciting role will suit an experienced fundraiser who can deliver strategically and influence at a senior level both internally and externally. They will implement fundraising initiatives and our overarching fundraising strategy to build and manage partnerships, working creatively to grow existing funding and establish new income sources.

Reporting to the CEO, this role will manage the current team and grow our

fundraising function according to the fundraising strategy. They will also be part of Black Minds Matters UK’s senior leadership team.

Key responsibilities or tasks of role:

As the Head of Fundraising and Communications, you will play a crucial role in driving our organisation's financial sustainability and expanding our impact. Your key responsibilities will include:

Fundraising:

  • Lead the development and execution of a dynamic fundraising strategy to diversify and enhance the organisation's revenue streams annually. Collaborate with external consultants to enrich the strategy with external expertise during its formulation and execution phases.
  • Strategically allocate resources and assess tasks related to the fundraising strategy, ensuring the creation of an operational plan each year.
  • Work closely with the CEO and interdisciplinary colleagues to identify pertinent funding needs and capitalise on available opportunities.
  • Conceptualise and execute fundraising campaigns targeting various sources of income, including one-time donations, regular giving, capital contributions, legacy gifts, high-value donors, and corporate partnerships.
  • Elevate income from Trusts and Foundations by nurturing relationships, identifying funding prospects, preparing grant applications, and delivering quality reports.

Communication:

  • Enhance communication across the organisation by collaborating with the CEO and team members, emphasising impact and achievements.
  • Empower the organisation to effectively articulate its narrative by providing training and support to staff and stakeholders in communication practices.
  • Strengthen and maintain an effective engagement strategy, forging connections with new and existing stakeholders and potential supporters.
  • Establish constructive feedback mechanisms with donors, funders, and partners.
  • Generate reports and materials suitable for communicating with diverse audiences.
  • Work closely with external partners and team members to ensure the creation and dissemination of high-quality digital content across various platforms.

CRM (Customer Relationship Management):

  • Lead the initiative in collaboration with the CEO and external partners to research, identify, and implement a suitable CRM system, particularly focusing on Beacon.
  • Lead the implementation of the new CRM systems in collaboration with partners, ensuring comprehensive training and support for staff and volunteers to ensure efficient and compliant data management.
  • Generate management reports and donor contact lists to facilitate communication with donors through multiple channels.
  • Provide assistance in inputting and updating records within the CRM system as necessary.

Financial Management:

  • Oversee the fundraising and communication budget, maintaining comprehensive financial records and exercising budgetary control over all expenditures within delegated authority.
  • Collaborate closely with the administrative and finance team to accurately record income and expenses in alignment with the strategy and operational plan.
  • Ensure adherence to financial policies and procedures, as well as compliance with reporting requirements for both restricted and unrestricted income streams.

Person specification:

Essential

  1. Proven track record of successfully leading fundraising campaigns and securing major gifts.
  2. Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, strategies, and best practices.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and stakeholders.
  4. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing marketing campaigns across various channels.
  5. Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms.
  6. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable

  1. Minimum 5 years of experience in fundraising and communication in a non-profit environment.
  2. A passion for promoting mental health and addressing racial disparities in the mental health field.
