What will you be doing?
Like many charities, the global pandemic, cost of living crisis, changes to health and social care, an increased demand for our services and a competitive funding environment created some challenges for us. These were and continue to be responded to by a highly committed, professional and enthusiastic team of trustees, staff and volunteers. The Trustees acting individually and collectively have an overall stewardship responsibility for the well-being of Age UK Enfield, providing strategic direction, ensuring that it works effectively towards its vision and mission, harnessing its resources to maximum effect and upholding its core ethos and values and fulfilling a duty of care, in accordance with its governing documents, relevant legislation and regulatory requirements. We are seeking two trustees to join our board with specific expertise in finance and HR. The current Treasurer’s tenure finishes at the end of December 2024 and therefore we would look to the potential finance-led candidate to take up this role at that time. Prospective candidates will need to:
Have time to dedicate to this role; Have empathy with the charitable objectives of the organisation; Have the ability, commitment and drive to work with the Board in taking the organisation forward.
The Board meets four times a year – currently early evening and usually on-line although there will be the occasional face-to-face to meeting. Additionally, the Board meets for a day or two half days a year to discuss and prepare plans for the Charity’s future but could also include governance, the management and delivery review of services. Trustees are expected to sit on at least one of the Committees of the Board: currently including Finance and Operations; Quality, Operations and Safety; and People and Culture. These Committees generally meet every three months. We are especially interested in hearing from candidates whose backgrounds reflect the diverse population in Enfield. Previous experience of working or volunteering in the third sector would be a bonus but not essential.
