The British Museum, founded in 1753, is home to a remarkable collection that spans over two million years of human history and culture. The Museum is one of the leading visitor attractions and its world-famous collection includes the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon sculptures, Egyptian mummies, the Admonitions Scroll, and the Amaravati sculptures.

The role of the Project Curator: Documentation of the Egyptian Collection involves documenting and making publicly accessible the ancient Egyptian collection, in support of the Museum’s Masterplan, the Museum Operating Plan and all relevant Museum strategies. The role also involves improving the accessibility of these collections via the Museum’s digital online platforms.

Key areas of responsibility include leading on upgrading the documentation of the ancient Egyptian objects in the collection, making the collection, and knowledge about it, publicly accessible via digital platforms, supporting storage projects on- and off-site, and assisting in the general day-to-day running of the department.

Job requirements include a BA/BSc (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, experience of documentation, expertise in the archaeology of ancient Egypt, some experience of working with a relevant collection, museum documentation and museum databases, and experience of working in a museum environment. The successful candidate should be an open, effective communicator with good spoken and written English and the ability to work as part of a team.
