  • Conduct advanced research on West African metals, completing a significant project that enhances understanding of the museum's collection.
  • Analyze and interpret data on metal composition and manufacturing techniques, contributing to the knowledge of historical production methods and usage.
  • Communicate research findings to various audiences, ensuring the rich history encapsulated in the museum's artifacts is accessible to all.
  • PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Proficiency in statistical and data analysis, as well as data visualization.
  • Experience with archaeological data analysis.
  • Skilled in research planning and execution.
  • Proficient in at least one data analysis software/package (e.g., IBM SPSS, Origin, R, Matlab, Pandas, numpy).
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary research environment and timely delivery of research projects.
  • Excellent communication skills in both oral and written forms.

The Museum is one of the leading visitor attractions and its world-famous collection includes the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon sculptures, Egyptian mummies, the Admonitions Scroll, and the Amaravati sculptures.

The role - Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Research Fellow The Fellowship offers an exciting opportunity for an early career researcher with a doctorate in a science discipline to conduct research on West African metals and metallurgy. The research will bring an existing project to completion, by analysis and interpretation of data on metal composition and manufacturing. The results improve understanding of the Museum’s collections in this region in terms of techniques of production and possible history and context of use.

Job requirements PhD in a relevant scientific discipline awarded before the start of the Fellowship. Experience in statistical analysis, data analysis and data visualisation. Experience in the analysis of archaeological data. Ability to plan and execute research. Experience in the use of at least one data analysis software/package, such as IBM SPSS, Origin, R, Matlab, Pandas, numpy, etc. Experience in a multidisciplinary research environment. Tracked research projects timely delivered. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly to a variety of audiences in oral and written form.
