The British Museum, founded in 1753, is home to a remarkable collection that spans over two million years of human history and culture. The Museum is one of the leading visitor attractions and its world-famous collection includes the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon sculptures, Egyptian mummies, the Admonitions Scroll, and the Amaravati sculptures.
As a Documentation Assistant, your role will be to catalogue the money and medals collection on the British Museum collections database. You will be responsible for creating, editing and amending digital object records for the money and medals collection of c.800,000 objects. You will support curators in cataloging of the collection and making it publicly accessible. You will also assist with enquiries from the public and in the general day-to-day running of the department. You will act as an advocate for the Museum and perform other duties as assigned.
Job requirements include a BA/BSc (or equivalent) in history or a related subject, or digital humanities or equivalent professional experience. Experience of digital collections databases and spreadsheets is required. Some experience of working with a museum collection is preferred. You should be an open, effective communicator with good spoken and written English and have the ability to work as part of a team.
