The British Museum is seeking a Curator for its European Modern Collection, dating from 1800 to the present. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Bloomsbury.
The role involves curating, researching, documenting, displaying, and augmenting the Museum’s collection of European material culture. The successful candidate will be expected to become a recognised authority in their relevant areas of academic expertise, both internally and internationally.
Key responsibilities include generating and leading new research projects, leading major cross-museum permanent exhibition projects, building the collections as necessary, and documenting the collections to a high standard. The curator will also work with relevant teams within the museum on care of the collections, their storage, display, and conservation.
The ideal candidate will have a good first degree in a relevant humanities subject, a postgraduate qualification in a relevant humanities subject, and experience of display, research, cataloguing, publication, and public speaking. Fluency in at least one other European language is required, as is the ability to lead and manage curatorial and research teams.
