  • Role Summary:
    • Support and develop global Elasticsearch infrastructure to enhance the chess experience for millions.
    • Build and maintain scalable Elasticsearch clusters on bare-metal and cloud Kubernetes clusters.
    • Optimize query performance, implement advanced features, and ensure data consistency.
    • Assist app development teams with Elasticsearch integrations.
    • Contribute to the stability, performance, and security of our Elasticsearch setup.
    • Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams for integrated search solutions.
  • Role Requirements:
    • Experience managing and scaling Elasticsearch clusters.
    • Proficiency in Java or other languages for efficient Elasticsearch integrations.
    • Experience with Kubernetes-deployed stateful services.
    • Knowledge of Elasticsearch best practices, indexing, query optimization, and performance tuning.
    • Understanding of Elasticsearch query DSL, aggregations, and full-text search.
    • Data ingestion expertise for Elasticsearch indices.
    • Familiarity with GitOps and ArgoCD.
    • Infrastructure as code skills, particularly with Terraform.
    • Competence in data modeling and mapping in Elasticsearch.
    • Strong communication skills for a distributed work environment.
    • A sense of ownership and a lifelong learning mindset.

About You

You are passionate about building and managing infrastructure. It brings you joy to learn new technologies and use them to help reach challenging product goals. You have solid experience deep diving into Elasticsearch & Linux internals, as well as the future-oriented skills of managing Cloud/Kubernetes ecosystems. You are humble with a sense of humor and eager to be a part of a like minded team of people.  You have been working in or dreamed of working in the gaming industry and are ready to turn your talents towards chess!



What You’ll Do

  • You will support our global Elasticsearch infrastructure and help us improve experiences for millions of chess players worldwide.
  • You will take part in building and maintaining highly scalable Elasticsearch clusters deployed on our bare-metal and cloud kubernetes clusters.
  • You will have the opportunity to solve interesting challenges like optimizing query performance for scanning TBs of data with high velocity, implementing advanced Elasticsearch features, and ensuring data consistency across multiple regions.
  • You will help app dev teams create and optimize integrations with Elasticsearch
  • You will play a key role in maintaining the stability, performance, and security of our Elasticsearch infrastructure, as we scale our capabilities to meet the growing demands of our user base.
  • You will get to collaborate with other engineers and cross-functional teams to integrate Elasticsearch with various components of our technology stack and develop innovative search solutions.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in managing and scaling Elasticsearch clusters in production environments.
  • Experience with programming languages commonly used with Elasticsearch (e.g., Java) to help app dev teams craft efficient integrations, query patterns and indexes.
  • Experience in deploying statefulset services like Elasticsearch on Kubernetes clusters.
  • Solid experience with Elasticsearch best practices, indexing strategies, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Expertise in Elasticsearch query DSL, aggregations, and full-text search capabilities.
  • Experience with data ingestion techniques and tools for populating Elasticsearch indices
  • Experience with GitOps tools like ArgoCD
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform for managing cloud resources.
  • Good understanding of data modeling and mapping in Elasticsearch to support efficient search and aggregations.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills working in a fully distributed team.
  • Sense of ownership and responsibility.
  • Lifelong learner.
