Role Summary:

  • Prepare compliant R&D Tax Credit claims for a diverse client base.
  • Provide expert advice on R&D Tax Relief schemes and business development support.
  • Assist with HMRC compliance checks and collaborate with internal teams to compile necessary reports.
  • Engage with clients, offering financial guidance and adapting to tax law changes.
  • Attend meetings, contribute to process improvements, and address R&D tax queries.

Role Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years' experience in R&D tax roles.
  • Proven track record of delivering tax credit claims and managing HMRC enquiry processes.
  • Familiarity with tax legislation, including Group Relief, and servicing a diverse client portfolio.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and communicate effectively with high-level executives.
  • Preferably based in London.

GrantTree is an innovation funding consultancy specialising in R&D Tax Credits and Grants. We work with some of the UK’s most innovative companies, helping them to maximise their government funding opportunities. We have ambitious plans for the years ahead and are looking for bright, motivated, and conscientious people to join our R&D tax credits delivery team.

That’s where you come in!

As a Senior Financial R&D Consultant, you’ll be helping GrantTree’s clients prepare fully-compliant claims for R&D Tax Credits. You’ll share your experience and a deep understanding of the R&D Tax Relief schemes, as well as support in business development. You will also be assisting our Enquiry Defence team, helping new and existing clients resolve HMRC compliance checks.

As part of our rapidly growing team, you’ll be working with internal stakeholders such as our Account Managers to ensure all of the financial and technical information is collated to complete the required reports to file a claim. We are looking for future talent who are as good with people as they are with numbers. On a typical day, you might:


  • Work closely with our clients’ founders and technical leads to prepare all financial aspects of their R&D claims.
  • Proactively provide advice to clients on legal and legislative changes to the R&D Tax Credits scheme.


  • Connect with internal stakeholders across the business to deliver government innovation funding to meet high levels of expected client service and internal and external deadlines.


  • Regularly attend meetings, actively participate in process improvements and help generate solutions to our clients’ R&D tax matters.


  • Assess the impact of changes in the tax law on your client book.


Requirements


  • Minimum 4 years' experience in an R&D tax role


  • Immaculate experience in delivering tax credits claims, or equivalent, including in-depth knowledge of the CIRD and BIS guidelines beyond what typically qualifies and how relief is calculated.


  • Led HMRC enquiry processes in both in written and face-to-face exchanges, achieving successful outcomes for your clients.
  • Knowledge of non-R&D specific tax legislation such as Group Relief.


  • Experience in servicing a large client book of clients featuring both SMEs and large companies and in delivering more value to these clients.


  • Confident working on tight deadlines while maintaining high service levels with keen attention to detail.


  • Comfortable communicating with CEOs, CFOs, and founders via email, phone, and in-person.


  • Preferably London based
