The British Museum is looking for an Assistant Collection Manager: Loans and Display (Framed works) to join our Collection Care team. This is a full-time, permanent position, working 41 hours per week (including one hour paid lunch break) and offering a salary of £25,575 per annum.
The role: As an Assistant Collection Manager, you will be responsible for all practical aspects of care and preservation of the British Museum collection with a primary focus on the framing, packing and display of 2D works. You will work as part of a specialist framing team, and your activities will include the storage, movement and preparation of 2D works for loans and display across all Museum sites. You may also be responsible for the packing, handling and display of other objects lent to venues in the UK and internationally. This role is primarily technical, requiring problem-solving skills and a flexible approach to working.
Job requirements: Experience of framing, installation and packing 2D artworks is essential. You should have a demonstrable interest in aspects of the Museum’s collections, manual dexterity, IT skills, and an understanding and appreciation of materials and objects. You should be able to work well as part of a team, be self-motivated and able to use initiative, and be a good communicator. Practical experience of hand tools and workshop equipment is required, as is familiarity with databases. A full UK driving licence and forklift licence are desirable.
