About us…

smol is on a mission to change the face of consumer brands and businesses by bringing super effective, eco-friendly products at value for money prices. We believe everyone should be able to make easy swaps that are better for them, the planet, and their pockets.

In the past six years, smol has taken the household cleaning market by storm. We are already the fastest growing and most positively reviewed brand in the laundry, dishwash, fabric conditioner and surface spray categories and we’ve got so much more planned.

Having received Series B investment in 2021 and B Corp certification at the end of 2023, our team is focused on combining fast growth with being a force for positive change and impact in all that we do.

In Summary...

We have a super exciting opportunity for an experienced Market and Consumer Insight Manager to work with us on continuing to grow smol into the UK’s most purposeful cleaning brand.

We’re looking for someone with strong experience in qualitative and quantitative research and insight to inform our strategies across the full breadth of marketing activity.

Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer and working closely with our marketing & innovation, data / BI, UX and Product teams, you will design and manage a continuous programme of research activity and analysis to help our work. From day-to-day decisions to innovation and market growth, you will be our “go-to” for market, consumer and competitor trends, data and insight.

We are looking for a team player, able to work alongside “internal customers” from across the business. You’ll be someone who really knows how to help teams get the best value from insight.

What does the role involve?...

Being the champion of market and consumer insight in smol, ensuring that consumer needs are always front and centre in our work.

You’ll be responsible for a full market and consumer insight strategy, utilising external data sources, always on consumer insight initiatives and ad-hoc projects.

Leading our always-on programme of research with our consumer community.

Responding to ad-hoc briefs from partners across the business, identifying the project objectives and designing and executing research using the appropriate methodology.

Completing project analysis and preparing debriefs to be shared with the business.

Liaising with our in-house data team to build powerful insight for the whole business.

Creating and managing an ongoing programme of brand tracking.

Setting up and managing ongoing competitor and category monitoring for smol.

Proactively bringing a continual flow of market and customer trends to our marketing and innovation teams, shaping our NPD and communications.

You will need/be...

Minimum 3 years' experience working in consumer research.

B2C experience, it's important that you understand UK consumer and FMCG buying behaviour. Experience in DTC services, especially subscription or retailer would be ideal. Specific experience in laundry, cleaning and / or personal care categories a plus but not essential.

Confident and proactive, able to design, implement and evolve a research programme including budget management.

Experienced in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies and analysis. Comfortable using a blend of methodologies.

Experience in designing and running UX research.

Well connected to suppliers - know where to source information and best practice solutions.

Commercially minded: have a drive for results that prefers insight that leads to action over precision and perfection. You'll be able to link insights to customer / market opportunities with business plans and strategy.

A strong communicator able to distill insights down into actionable recommendations and to work with multiple stakeholders.

Comfortable working with multiple teams, across multiple briefs, managing your own schedule and linking to business priorities.
