Your role in our team:

The Cell Therapy Innovation (CTI) group, within Research & Development, plays a pivotal role to enable the use of bit.bio cell types in the clinic. Our Technology Development team in CTI designs, explores and builds new tools for more efficient cell engineering and expanded clinical applications.

We are seeking a Scientist with molecular and cellular engineering experience, a passion for problem solving and innovation, and a good track record for leading projects. The role is focussed on key technology development at the bench, as well as coordinating projects of other scientists within the team. Reporting to the leader of the CTI Technology Development team, the appointed candidate will work with various project leads across the Cell Therapy Platform and the R&D department.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Design, test and incorporate novel and/or customised solutions to increase the capabilities of our Cell Therapy Platform. You will investigate the use of contemporary molecular and cellular technologies.
  • Lead projects with a high level of independence once goals and experimental strategies are set.
  • Work collaboratively and proactively with multiple teams within the company, in particular the Cell Therapy Engineering and Functional Genomics groups, as well as our Clinical Programme team.
  • Manage interactions with external collaborators to assess new technologies, share ideas and tackle experimental challenges. You will show initiative in communicating and managing such projects.
  • Influence and impact across cell therapy R&D at bit.bio, as well as cell type discovery and cell engineering process development.
  • To deputise for the team leader as required.

You…

  • Have a MSc in a relevant area of Biological Sciences or equivalent experience in the biotech industry.
  • Design complex experiments, work independently and proactively.
  • Can efficiently manage and prioritise your workload.
  • Are interested in developing technologies that can be transformative from a therapeutic perspective.
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively with teammates and collaborators, occasionally presenting work to large groups.

With essential experience in…

  • Genome Engineering of eukaryotic cells and/or Molecular Design and Cloning techniques: strong practical and theoretical experience, including experiment QC and project delivery.
  • Cellular assays and phenotyping (flow cytometry, IHC, clonogenicity, cytotoxicity and viability testing).
  • Molecular assays and biology (e.g. cloning, qRT-PCR, scRNA-seq, ddPCR, NGS, gene synthesis).

…and possibly…

  • Experience in cell therapy.
  • Experience in the use of and incorporation of automated workflows.
  • Experience with PSC culture.
