  • Manage and optimize mobile cloud infrastructure and backend systems.
  • Ensure seamless API management and data synchronisation with external services.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/IT or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years in cloud engineering or DevOps.
  • Expertise in AWS, API development (RESTful, GraphQL), and database management (PostgreSQL).
  • Proficiency in Node.js or Python, with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • AWS Certification and experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, Docker, and Kubernetes preferred.

Job Type: Contract (3 months)

Overview: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Freelance Cloud Engineer to join our team for a 3-month contract. The ideal candidate will manage, optimise, and maintain our mobile cloud infrastructure and services, focusing on backend systems, API management, data synchronisation, and system integrations. You will work on various tasks, including API monitoring, enhancing backend functionality, and updating and maintaining libraries and dependencies.

Key Responsibilities:



  1. API Management and Monitoring:

    • Implement comprehensive API error monitoring solutions.


    • Develop and maintain APIs to ensure synchronisation with databases and external services such as Algolia and Bloomreach.





  2. System Optimization and Updates:

    • Conduct audits of backend libraries and dependencies, prioritise updates, and manage phased rollouts.


    • Refactor deprecated code and ensure backward compatibility with minimal disruption.


    • Document and maintain backend functionality to facilitate easier updates and integrations.





  3. Infrastructure Management:

    • Utilise AWS services (CloudWatch, Lambda, SNS) for monitoring, logging, and alerting.


    • Optimise and maintain cloud infrastructure to ensure scalability, security, and performance.




Qualifications:



  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant work experience can substitute for formal education.




  • Experience:

    • 3+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or related roles.


    • Proven experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, CloudWatch, SNS).


    • Strong knowledge of API development and management, including RESTful and GraphQL APIs.


    • Experience with database management and optimisation, particularly PostgreSQL.


    • Experience with monitoring and logging tools like Grafana, New Relic, or Datadog.





  • Skills:

    • Proficiency in scripting and programming languages such as Node.js or Python.


    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.


    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.


    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.


    • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.




Preferred Qualifications:


  • Certification in AWS (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer).


  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.


  • Knowledge of microservices architecture and containerisation tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
