Role Summary

  • Report and resolve safeguarding incidents, ensuring efficient outcomes.
  • Design and deliver safeguarding training company-wide.
  • Review and update safeguarding processes and policies.
  • Collaborate with schools, parents, and external agencies for coordinated safeguarding efforts.
  • Maintain a safeguarding risk register and advise on best practices.

Role Requirements

  • Proven experience in a safeguarding role and working with at-risk individuals.
  • Strong communication skills and experience with senior stakeholder engagement.
  • Confidence in risk assessments and understanding of confidentiality principles.
  • Empathy and emotional intelligence to guide and influence safeguarding practices.
  • Desirable experience in the Commercial and Compliance fields.

What’s it all about?

N.B. We are also open to applicants who would like to work Term Time hours for a pro-rata salary.

We are looking for a new Safeguarding Officer who will join our new legal and compliance team as someone who is forward thinking, a great communicator and empathetic.

You will work across all our end users, including pupils, tutors and teachers to support their safeguarding needs. You’ll be responsible for following up on incidents, working with the relevant parties involved and coming to a resolution as effectively and efficiently as possible. No previous experience working in education is necessary; just a passion for what our product does for disadvantaged students and a love of working with customers.

The Day to Day

  • Design and deliver company wide and tutor training in line with the latest guidance and legislation.
  • Reviewing and updating safeguarding processes and policies and updating training manuals where required.
  • Reviewing safeguarding concerns reported on our case management system (CPOMS) and liaising with internal stakeholders and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to child and adult safety concerns.
  • Liaise with schools (safeguarding leads and programme leads) on incidents
  • Liaise with parents, tutors and students to investigate safeguarding incidents
  • Follow safeguarding policies to inform decisions relating to removals/account closures of users
  • Work across operations to ensure the right information is collected and stored, to ensure a quick resolution is made on incidents
  • Communicating with external authorities i.e. police and LADO where necessary
  • Maintaining the safeguarding risk register and working with key stakeholders to mitigate identified safeguarding business risks
  • Provide advice and guidance across the business on all matters relating to safeguarding.

Requirements

Who will you be?

  • Previous experience working in a safeguarding role 
  • Experience of working with children and/or adults at risk in a safeguarding context
  • Experience of carrying out child and adult at risk safeguarding investigations
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Confidence in speaking with senior stakeholders both internally and with our customers
  • Experience of undertaking and reviewing safeguarding risk assessments
  • A comprehensive understanding of the principles of confidentiality, including when it is appropriate to breach confidentiality in specific circumstances
  • Excellent telephone call handling skills including questioning, probing, listening, establishing rapport, matching and closing
  • Knowledge of the risks presented by abusers and understanding of offender behaviour
  • You ideally have experience in either/and Commercial and Compliance fields as well as your Safeguarding experience
  • You have high levels of empathy and emotional intelligence; you are able to lead and influence others as well as guide teams on best practice in Safeguarding and other legal realms.

A screening call with a member of the Talent team to discuss your relevant experience to the role and give you further information on MyTutor and the role itself.

  1. 1st Interview Stage: A  competency & skills based interview with the Head of Legal and Senior Safeguarding Officer
  2. 2nd Interview: A Case Study/Task Presentation with our Head of Legal and Senior Safeguarding Officer.
  3. Final Interview: ‘Culture & Values Add: A discussion with a MyTutor employee outside of the hiring team where they will ask you a series of questions based on our Behaviours & Values. During this round, we’re not looking for a ‘culture fit’ but focused on where you can add to our existing values and what your own values might add to the culture and work of the team.
