The British Museum, founded in 1753, is a leading visitor attraction with a remarkable collection spanning over two million years of human history and culture. Our world-famous collection includes the Rosetta Stone, Egyptian mummies, the Sutton-Hoo finds, and the Lewis Chessmen. We also hold an extensive collection of prints and drawings spanning 600 years, including works by the greatest graphic artists Dürer, Michelangelo and Rembrandt.

The role of the Nordic Project Curator is a unique opportunity to contribute to an exciting exhibition featuring modern and contemporary Nordic prints and drawings, many of which have never been seen before in the UK. You will be engaging with a world-class collection, and this post would suit someone with a keen eye for detail combined with excellent communication skills and an enthusiasm for works on paper.

Key areas of responsibility include working as a core member of the Project Team, assisting the Lead Curator and Project Manager, managing and filing project documentation and correspondence, compiling and managing a digital database with object list and images, tracking and monitoring the movement of BM objects for the exhibition, and assisting with obtaining copyright and rights of reproduction for images to be used in the exhibition.

Job requirements include a degree in a relevant subject, high proficiency in Microsoft Office, excellent communication skills in spoken and written English, good writing, proofing and editing skills, and museum, project, and research experience.

The Museum offers a competitive benefits package including generous annual leave allowance, membership of the civil service defined benefit pension scheme, free entry to a wide range of museums and exhibitions, participation in private and public Museum activities, interest-free travel, bicycle, and rental deposit loans, professional and personal development opportunities, and discounts on food and gift shop purchases.

The British Museum is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all staff and job applicants. We value the benefits that a diverse workforce brings to a museum which represents world culture. We offer a flexible way of working scheme that allows our employees to work remotely in a way that suits them and the organisation.
